I had first infusion 10 minutes before the infusion was done. I felt like I was getting pinked in my hand and then it traveled up my arm. It was the end of the day fusion and clinical closing. I didn’t think much of it and headed home by the time. I got home 15 minutes later, I had swelled up like the state puff marshmallow man ended up taking 100 mg of Benadryl the next morning my arm is still completely swelled. My face is swelled and around my ankles, wrist and other hand it’s still swell. It may work wonders for some, but I had an adverse reaction which didn’t start till the entire infusion was done. It was dripped in over 2 1/2 hours .. Read More Read Less

I had iron infusion 3 days ago for the first time. I have always had very low iron(10yr) due to not being able to take tablets. Finally got ass into gear to have it done but am worried about side effects I'm experiencing. Consistent headache first 2 days, and now very bad body aches and pains and fever. Very sore back pain. I know this is all potential side effects but it's not fun. I am hoping it eases soon and I can get the benefits. I also have terrible veins so it took them over a hr to get needle inRead More Read Less

I had received Venofer on the 16th and told the nurse I was experiencing a really bad headache and was told to take some OTC meds when I get home because it would take her time to connect my doctor! I didn’t know I was actually experiencing some problems then with also extreme chills! Went home later starting feeling back , stomach cramps, muscles in legs and joint pain with extreme tiredness, later received the 2nd dosage told the nurse I didn’t feel good and that I hurt all over, was told maybe it’s the weather outside! Asked if t still wanted my treatment I said yes the doctor says I need it . Still did know I was having a problem with Venofer. Got home to my car to go home I then experienced the worst pain in my life ! Body cramps pain hitting me all over like I was being tazzed and not knowing where the next electrical shock was going to hit me . I call the clinic was told go to ER they are closing in 15 mins. In ER showed the staff the paperwork I was just infused with the VENOFER and having a bad reaction I was made to sit from 4:30pmto about 8:45- 9:00pm finally call blood test ran urine is straight brown never experiencing that before while two people had to hold me to walk now!! Doctor states he has to call Poison Control due to I have been poisoned according to my numbers ( iron serum 396) I was never flushed or given anything to try and get it out my system! Sent home at 3:00 am with pain meds and muscle relaxer after given me fentanylin my medport and was told to follow up my hematologist! I felt like crap could barely walk now! I asked what is going to be been able about the levels he stated nothing they was really busy! Pains only put me to sleep no help went to another hospital walked in barely gaven them all the paperwork and labs looking for help due to extreme pain all over sat for another 6 -7 hours as I was now really declining my husband still asking for help for that I am getting worse he was told a lot of people are in pain; I was called back after muscles wad cramping and contractions in my hands and legs had then cause me to lock upon a sitting position lying face down on table in the lobby of the hospital three staff people had to lift me because now I can’t walk! I was then latter flushed with pain meds and then hospitalized for a week unable to to walk now but I could still feel my legs which are jumping, muscle spasms in one leg and the other leg is hurting with electrical pain, MRI are now being done results ( negative) then after a week I was told I have to be transferred to in-house rehabilitation center for PT and OT! There for 2 weeks in a wheelchair can only now stand with 3 people to hold me up!! Finally I can stand for 1 minute 43 seconds before I hit the floor always feeling pain heavinesses in the legs , left ear pain with muffled sounds never had that either , metal taste in my mouth , back pain swelling In legs leg jerking can’t drive now , headaches, weight gain, sleeping alot more, extreme coldness, stomach pain where the liver would be located at sharp , throbbing pain, nauseated alot, extreme night sweating where I have to change my night gown and blankets and that with turning on the a/c and a fan on full blast. And now my labs are showing I am right back in the same place where I need iron again! Bad stuff I am praying that Venofer has not damaged me for good it now October 29,2022 this is all from September 16 my nightmare began and now I am home having to still fo PT and OT and nothing has changed still having problems! Had this happen to anyone that can’t barely walk now!Read More Read Less

My dad had it twice now cause his body is losing iron/blood. After colonscopy and endoscopy, many test, still no answers on why the low hemoglobin. But gave 12 bags of a different kind of iron which did work, but now thanks to freaking ole Joe and the changes made, they can't give my dad the good IV iron, now he gets this crap which does nothing, dropped his blood pressure, made him dizzy, light headed, very sick, and worn out feeling. Never helped him at all, never raised his counts at all, was a living hell and yet this is all they will offer to give him! Guess my dad will be a loss before long cause he's giving up cause of this mess. Read More Read Less

I really need to know if this has happens to anyone else. I have struggled with anemia my whole life. Never mind as I ever told that this was why my periods were so heavy and so painful. Years of suffering and 2 surgeries because I was told I had endometriosis. I suffered with 4 miscarriages in the last 6 years. I got my 6th and last venofer Iv infusion a little over a month ago. And I am now pregnant. I am in shock and very emotional. I don’t know if being a severe anemic was the cause of my miscarriages because I was never told anything about Iron in my past. I saw my new gynecologist 3 months ago he pointed out the issue with my iron level. He immediately set me up with treatment and boom I’m pregnant. I am at a list of words. Has this happen to anyone else? I’m curious if the issues with my iron were the leading cause of all my past miscarriages. And if so why my previous doctors never mentioned it. Read More Read Less

I take this weekly, and this is my 5th treatment. I have had a gastric bypass, so I do not absorb iron. I have headaches after this medication, my legs have been swollen badly, and I have had a rapid weight gain(12 lbs from my last infusion)!! I am 4 1/2 years out gastric bypass and my weight was maintained nicely until these infusions. I also have not seen any difference in my energy level and my face is still pale as a ghost, my dark circles haven’t began to fade and I still sleep more than I am awake. On top of it all I had to get a chest port for my infusions. I regret ever getting this medication.Read More Read Less

Had 5 infusions of Venofer a few months back with no side effect or problems. Shot my iron/ferritin up nicely; I felt pretty darn good. Started another set of infusions today, will keep it going as long as my body unloads my iron/ferritin and I feel poorly again. Even my nails were growing better, but not being out of breath was SOOOO nice with my Venofer boost!

Due to severe iron deficiency, I received 5 Venofer infusions in 2 weeks. Last infusion was abruptly stopped when I suddenly became nauseated and felt slightly faint. The infusions did greatly improve my health.

Over a period of one week I had two infusions. I immediately had dizziness body swelling rapid weight gain and back pain. After the second infusion I had sudden onset numbness and weakness in my hands that has not gone away even though my last infusion was two weeks ago. My joints are stiff and swollen and I normally run a lot but I can barely walk on some days I am hoping this goes away because I went from being normal one day to barely being able to write my hands dropping things and tripping over my feet because I can barely feel them after I took this infusion. My hematologist is perplexed. I also have a really weird taste in my mouth that won’t go away that makes everything taste disgusting. I’m really concerned that this is going to be permanent and I’m not going to be able to use my hands and feet properly againRead More Read Less

5 IV infusions total every 3-4 days. Extreme fatigue, anxiety, unable to concentrate, unable to sleep due to pain. Every dose would heighten the side effects. 2 months later and still fighting the muscle aches and pain, the rest did eventually subside. I felt better before treatments!

I had rny gastric bypass in 2005, and as such cannot absorb oral iron nor iron in food or drink ( absorbed in duodenum, which is bypassed.) Had first iron infusion with Iron Dextran in 2014, then by mid 2021 was so depleted I had shortness of breath, palpitations, constant ice eating, etc. Four weekly infusions of 200mmol of Venofer, in August of 2021. No side effects at all, all symptoms disappeared. Labs this December showed minimal improvement since, now have biweekly infusions x 6, at 300. Hopefully this gets the levels up. Read More Read Less

It definitely helps the low iron, ferritin goes up quick with a few treatments. Iron pills do nothing due to years of stomach damage. I get 200mg a few times a year. My first time getting treated I felt horribly dizzy and sick at the very end like I was going to pass out, so they slowed it to two hours instead and that seems to help. I experience side effects like hot flashes, malaise, mild headache and exhaustion for a week or so after. But it works after that.

I have thalassemia and severe iron deficiency anemia accompanied by gastrointestinal issues. When my iron levels are depleted I experience palpitations, extreme fatigue, shortness of breath, bone pain, blurry vision, muscle cramps, chest pain, and nasty rashes on my lower limbs. Despite this, I made it to 35 years of age, without "needing" a blood transfusion. Truthfully, I probably needed one before but was accustomed to coping with the symptoms and didn't freak out until my breathing was affected. I previously had been able to get by with extra rest and daily smoothies of spinach, kale, beets, and spirulina. In 2018, at the age 35 I needed a blood transfusion followed by 8 weekly venofer infusions. Halfway through the infusions it felt like I was on the moon. And the boost to my iron and ferritin levels lasted for 8 months. Although there are side effects (headache, stomach cramps, fatigue, brown urine, skin rash) to venofer infusion within the first 1-2 days of treatment, the pros far outweigh the cons. I wish I didn't have to receive infusions but I'm thankful this treatment is available.Read More Read Less

Due to damage from celiac my gut has a hard time absorbing iron. After months of oral iron and no change I received five venofer infusions one week apart. I didn't regain energy until the end of week three. The energy isn't booming but it's worlds better from where I was. My brain fog is slightly better, however it goes away completely when I'm on a paleo diet. I do think it's take time for the body to heal from malnourishment so it's important to give yourself some time. It's not an overnight process. I had no reactions to this drug. Read More Read Less

I've had to receive Venofer IVs as a series of 3, as per my hematologist's prescription for iron deficiency which becomes anemia if left alone. First of all, anyone with iron deficiency shoudl know that they must insist that docs check ferritin levels, not just RBC/Hem, etc. Second, be prepared for your urine to look like cola. I don't know why this happens, no one has explained but it's standard for me. Also, I get low blood pressure, dizziness and a weird sensation that my eyes aren't working right during infusing. I get mine spaced over 6 weeks and generally wind up with wildly inflated levels of ferritin in the weeks afterward. The assumption of my specialists is that I have this anemia/deficiency because I also have psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis... and that the inflammatory bowel disease and autoimmune atrophic gastritis prevents me from absorbing iron from food. In the past, I had to get emergency blood transfusions but now, as long as I get these, I am ok. The only issue is convincing the doc to infuse *before* my hemaglobin plummets because he doesn't like to prescribe it, even when my ferritin levels are in the teens if my hemaglobin is over 120. I have been told by a number of professionals that I shouldn't have symptoms of anemia from low ferritin alone but after years of dealing with this, their POV is entirely clinical and totally out of step with my actual experience of exhaustion, heart trouble, difficulty climbing the stairs to my home, worsening psoriatic disease symptoms and depression... which all become markedly reduced as soon as the iron kicks in, which usually takes at least a week or so for me to notice. PS. I think there's a link between iron deficiency and inflammation and I really wish that doctors were more concerned with this connection as well as the devastating effects of living with anemia. Overall, I'm happy with the product, it keeps me alive, not sure of any other alternative when one cannot tolerate/asorb oral iron.Read More Read Less

I have severe anemia and digestive issues that prevent me from taking iron pills or liquid dosages. Hematologist recommended this treatment although I requested a blood transfusion instead. I was given the entire bag without Benadryl on a fast drip because it was nearing five pm on a Friday. I have a known life threatening allergy to certain intravenous medications. I finished the entire bag with only mild bruising and swelling at the site. As soon as the nurse took the bag down i couldn't breathe. I was coughing uncontrollably and felt as if someone were stabbing me in my neck, kidneys, heart, and lungs everytime I inhaled. My left hand swelled up like a balloon and I broke out in hives. I was rushed to the ER and given Benadryl. I have been experiencing residual side effects for the past four weeks ever since reciving the treatment such as muscle aches, breathing issues, fatigue, digestive problem, neck and kidney pain, night sweats, head aches, rapid heart beat for no reason. Doctor is saying its anxiety but I know it's the medication and I'm not sure if this treatment permanently damaged my body. Every week gets a little better but I can't drink alcohol or certain foods or I will get dizziness and fevers. I would not do this treatment again I am afraid a second dosage will kill me.Read More Read Less
