I am not one to take prescription drugs. Having said that, after 4 years of increasing sexual pain I finally trusted my doctor in her recommendation for Vagifem. Pleasantly, I found that within the first week I had greatly reduced pain during intercourse. AND, during the 4 years when it was painful, I started having Urinary Tract Infections, UTIs. Very painful! I waited a year to review. I have o...

I have only experienced migraines during the pre-menopause. I was about 45. I am 52 now and tried an oestrogen pesserie last night for the first time. My dad had a heart attack and survived. My mum had heart failure and took HRT for years. I have a headache in my temple now and I am worried. I have decided not to take anymore of this.

I was experiencing pin during intercourse due to vaginal dryness after menopause. My brilliant gynecologist was cautious about giving me any product containing estrogen due to my breast cancer many years earlier. But I had been cancer-free for over 25 years at that point, and vagifem only has 10mcg of estrogen and all of it very locally applied, not systemic (not a pill or injection). Three weeks after starting to use vagifem, vaginal pain was gone, natural vaginal lubrication was back, and I felt like I was in my 30's again. I experience no side effects. If I am expecting to have oral sex, I time the insertion of vagifem so that I don't use it within 24 hrs prior, just so any discharge is minimal. Read More Read Less

I was put on vagifem for abit of dryness, and a few menopause symptoms.. I've found it to be horrific for my moods, I'm crying all the time, I'm being unreasonable and argumentative.. I know I'm doing this but I can't stop myself! Has anyone else experienced this?

I have been using Vagifem for 2 and a half years now. It was original prescribed to me because I was getting a lot of bladder infections. I thought that things were going well but now I think differently. After reading up on the side effects of this med, I realized that all my problems that I have been having in the last little while, are from taking these suppositories The worse side effect that I have had is unusual vaginal bleeding which was dark in color which makes me think the blood has been sitting inside of me for a very long time. I have had a hysterectomy so this blood was not as a result of a period. I went to the hospital and was put on 1000 mg of antibiotics for 7 days and I am still having issues with bleeding and I still feel like I have an infection. I have had other symptoms that were listed on this site. The shorter version of this message is as of today, I am not using Vagifem ever again. This hormone suppository is not good for you. Think twice before using it. I wish that I never started it. I do not give this a good review and I rate it a BIG fat O.Read More Read Less

I started on vagifem because of persistent UTI's, I think it helps with dryness & plumping up the inner vagina, but the side effects for me outweigh that, on it for 3 months, started getting burning, had a yeast infection, but the worst side effect for me was the panic attacks, funny head & dizzy, couldn't breath, felt on edge, really scarey!! I last used it 4 days ago still having side effects, was gona cut down to 1 a week, but I've decided to stop. Not sure how long it takes for side effects to stop!! ??Read More Read Less

I had very painful sex to the point that I completely stopped. Then started using vagifem. At first I had to use a lidocaine cream to be able to have sex (numbed the area so did not feel pain). But after taking vagifem for about 6 months I stopped the other cream and now have no pain. Magic!

Likely to be cause of continual internal, unseen rectal bulging that resulted in pain, bleeding and very itch mucous, many, many times. Internal bulging required expensive, time-consuming banding by colorectal surgeon every time that carried some risk. Since Vagifem was ceased, NO MORE INTERNAL RECTAL BULGING! I wish I had not used Vagifem and now have areas of scar tissue on the rectal walls, and a much lighter wallet. Vagifem did not do very much at all for vaginal burning. Development of uterine fibroids in the years since taking Vagifem. Lots of unexplained health problems that have improved dramatically or disappeared completely since I stopped taking Vagifem. Sorry, cannot recommend this drug at all.Read More Read Less

I am 64 and never took HRT before. I started taking vagifem in mid-May for dryness and intense itching. In early July I started with alopecia areata. My GP, dermatology consultant and pharmacist all said there was no connection, so I kept taking vagifem for 7 months. Since alopecia is an autoimmune illness with unknown triggers and I was told by experts there was no connection it took me until now to realize what I have done to myself - I now have have 40% hair loss and have immediately stopped this product and will never take again.Read More Read Less

This medication got rid of the urinary track infections that I was getting every 3 months and pain but I have ended up with daily migraines. Impossible for me to continue. Nothing relieves the head pain. Eyes strange and head foggy.

About 6 years ago I was prescribed Vagifem for: vaginal atrophy, pap smears and attempts to have sexual intercourse causing extreme pain; I'd forgotten about the stinging discomfort washing "down there" with normal soap caused me as prepubescent child.. but its recurrence stirred memory of that! My Dr prescribed the only available dose back then (25mcg??). When the low dose(10mcg) became available several years ago he swapped me onto it. I was always wary of using it as I have a history of cervical (treated successfully) and bladder cancer(remission). My specialist assured me it "should" ok. I used Vagifem less frequently than per instructions. Benefits: my post/menopausal dry skin seemed to improve slightly. The stinging sensation when washing "down there" disappeared( phew). I could tolerate oral sex occasionally (yes, I was this dry/sensitive) but my previously strong (pre-menopause)libido never returned, sadly. I sometimes had very slight incontinence when sneezing, coughing and laughing but this almost disappeared while using Vagifem. I have stopped using Vagifem Low recently due to noticing some long and short term memory loss. I do have several other health issues which may have contributed to memory loss(depression, stroke - brain bleed). Since ceasing Vagifem Low 45 days ago: my skin is drier, slight incontinence has returned, slight stinging when washing returned, only had oral sex 2x and no difference yet(yea!). My meemory seems improved but I'm unable to definitively attribute that to use, or not, of Vagifem. Maybe inverse 'placebo' effect, lol. I will speak to my Dr for advice before possibly resuming Vagifem Low.Read More Read Less

This medication has helped relieve me of the misery of dryness and itching and a very wasting away. At first, it seemed as though I had a yeast infection that was itching and burning and treated it accordingly. I havenâ??t had that problem lately. I have been on the 10mg twice weekly for 5 mos this time and the tissue is thickening and not nearly as fragile or dry.. I have a problem with urine burning me and i must clean all traces after urination . I too order from Canadian Pharmacy or I could not afford to use it. Looking forward to a break in American drug prices. Read More Read Less

I am a 53 yo in 3rd year of menopause with vaginal and urethral atrophy. Was hesitant to begin hormone therapy and especially after reading some blogs about this medication. Gyno recommended over creams because it was a direct dose and â??it works better than hormone cream.â? I was extremely dry to begin with which became even worse. The side effects after 20 doses were unbearable. The medication made ALL of my original symptoms 100% worse. Experienced difficulty sitting and walking. Chronic yeast infections, extremely painful bladder spasms, constipation, bloated gut, pain in abdomen, swollen painful vulva. Finally went to urogynecologist who advised that the hormone can cause vaginal spasms which causes bladder spasms. I am exploring other options.Read More Read Less
