I have partial seizures and have tried every medication on the market, all with bad results (until Keppra). Depakote caused me to get a life-threatening case of pancreatitis (so BE CAREFUL!); Lamictal caused bruising and migraines; Topamax & Tegretol didn't work; et cetera. Many of them made me lose/gain weight and lose hair. I thought all hope was lost until they put me on Keppra. I've not lo...

This Drug made me crazy and irritable when in the company of other, when I would not normally act in such a fashion.

I have complex partial seizures (looks like a grand mal and I lose consciousness and go stiff but no convulsions). I also get myoclonic seizures and simple partial seizures. After trying 7 different meds, some of which I was allergic to and some of which CAUSED seizures in me, keppra was the only thing that worked. The only side effect is that I get more worn out and depressed/angry. I'm on an antidepressant to counteract that because I'm also raising twin toddlers and want to be a happy mom. My dr said I'll likely be on keppra the rest of my life. Read More Read Less

Med worked great for me, but the side effects were too much to handle. Lots of anger and sadness. You begin to think this is who you are until you are taken off of Keppra. Now on Vimpat and I love life =)

8 year old daughter started on this medication for complex partial seizures. 250 twice a day. Besides some initial tiredness in the first two weeks we have noticed no side effects and she has been able to keep up her very active life with no seizures since starting the med. She won her age group in a 1 mile run last week and her competitive soccer team took first this weekend in a tournament thanks to a number of goals that she scored. So thankful this med has allowed my sweet girl to continue to do the things she loves without seizures. I also see no change in her school work or personality. She is still my happy, sweet girl who loves to read and do math. Very happy with this med!!Read More Read Less

Had Seizure Nov. of 2013. Just started Keppra 3 days ago. So not sure why I have to take it. Dr.'s nurse said that my EEG was abnormal. Nothing else explained. Haven't had a seizure since November of 2013. In fact, that's the only one I ever had. I'm so confused.

I have been on Keppra for about 2 years after experiencing my first unconscious seizure. When I first began Keppra I felt very fatigued, but that only lasted a couple weeks. I have noticed weight gain, but that could be many other things as well. Since I have been on this medicine I have not had another seizure; although, I have experienced a few auras here and there, but they have decreased a lot.

First off I live alone.I use this medication with Lacmictal. My seizures have become more violent( i have no insurance and therfore i refuse to go to the hospital, last year was $14,000 in medical expenses and about $12,000( which Glaxo-Smith Kline pays part of. Post-seizure i dont know who or what i am, or where i am, cannot write, scared of people, scream and fight,it takes me about 3 weeks to fully recover This has caused me to have hypothroidism (which my other doctor fights with me about, as the perscription goes up and down according to blood tests.I have night sweats, chills,go from happy to crying, or sitting and looking at the floor, unable to sleep and nightmares, constant cold like symptoms, headaches that burn with pain, dry mouth, bleading nose, teeth having problems, vision issues with light and colors, thinking ability is slowed or thoughts are gone( was a honor student), unable to remember things( these come intermittant, like pedi-mal), dizzy, tripping, and balance issues. Gag reflex issues, muscle spasms in throat. Seizures are more violent, and when it was tried to get me off the Keppra i had violent seizures. People have a bias towards me because of seizures in the first place, i cannot get insurance, trouble finding a job, and SSD said that because i garden to feed myself, that i am able to have a job. At least when i have a seizure in the garden i dont get hurt.I dont want anymore seizures because they hurt and cause so much debt,i do figure if i die there will be no more debt and the pain will be gone.Read More Read Less

I have apparently been experiencing absence, or petit mal seizures for as long as I can remember but never had a name for them. I then had a Tonic-Clonic/ grand mal about 2 years ago which left me dazed, confused and with a dislocated shoulder. I was originally put on 500mg of Keppra but was still having an occasional aura/ petit mal. Doc increased to 1000mg and seems much better. Unfortunately for my wife both doses made me noticeably more angry and irritable , but I feel as though that has lessened over the past few months. It's need for 2 times a day becomes very apparent however when after a few missed doses I have experienced absence seizures for the following day or two. Overall though it has proven effective for me.Read More Read Less
