Here is my story with Avelox: There is no other medication that I have taken that has been so effective in knocking out infection quickly. This does, however, come at a price of side effects. If you EDUCATE yourself about this drug, you will know how to avoid some/most of these effects. This drug stimulates your central nervous system. Do not take in too many stimulants like nicotine, caffeine...

Given me for sinus infection. It was my first time taking this medication and I didn't know any antibiotics can cause such effects! First day started to feel sick and shaky. Doctor told me to finish the 7 day course so I continued. Next day, I was more uncomfortable, shaky, was hard to focus, feeling more sick. By the 4th day I couldn't get out of the bed because of newly added symptoms extreme dizziness and nausea. By the 5th I didn't take anymore, I went to doctor, he change the antibiotic. (though he didn't want to at first!!) It's horrible. I'd never consider taking it again. I'm still feeling really disoriented and little shaky although I didn't take it today(5th day). I hope it'll go away. I found out it should be completely out of my system in 63.5 hr. Read More Read Less

Numb hands for an hour, severe headache, blurry vision, rash on my arms. And this was with my first dosage. Doctor didn't even ask to see what previous antibiotics worked for me in the past. He just gave me Avelox and prednisone and said "on your way". Also google how Avelox and prednisone react. Then you'll think twice. So pissed off.

After 48 hours of taking Avelox for cellulitis in my left ankle, I began to notice a pain in my RIGHT ankle, which was unaffected by cellulitis. The pain grew worse and the heel was so sensitive I could barely touch it to the floor. A close friend who is an MD examined it and told me I had a bad inflammation of the Achilles tendon. She advised me to have it examined. As it turned out, the Avelox had nearly torn my Achilles tendon apart. I stopped taking it at my doctor's request six months ago. The Achilles tendon is still swollen and inflamed 6 months later, and I cannot walk without pain. This adverse effect is featured in the specs for Avelox, making it--at least for me--pretty awful. I'd rather have the infection, I thinkRead More Read Less

Dr. Prescribed 7 doses of that and a steroid dose pack. I let him talk me into it, even though I read the warning and questioned him on it. Three months later, I've got a ruptured left bicep, a right bicep that's on fire, and Achilles tendons that ache constantly... I've went from two miles a day to being afraid to move...

I had an URI, sinus infection, sore throat, ear ache and swollen glands in my neck. I have had this type of thing in the past and it took forever to get rid of it taking several courses of antibiotics. I took Avelox for 10 days and it worked wonders. I noticed improvement within a day. It is very convenient because you only take 1 a day.

two hours after taking one pill i ended up in the emergency room. i got extremely dizzy, my skin on my face, neck, and chest turned bright red and my mouth got immediate cotton mouth. Also, i felt completely panicky. The er put me on an iv drip to flush it out of my system and was told never to take it again. very scary reaction and it took me over 24 hrs to feel like myself again.

Wow! What an extreme and hellish experience I had with this evil drug. I thought I was just sensitive generally to all drugs but this one made me feel like I was dying. I took it with prescribed prednsone, mucinex and an inhaler for Bronchitis and it hit me like a ton of bricks immediately. Severe leg tremors, anxiety and agitation, dry moth, ringing in my ears, nausea, my normally low blood pressure shot up, ( Thank God i looked at this wesite. I saw here that another girl here ended up in the ER with high blood pressure, so I checked mine), I did not sleep the whole 1st night that I took it, eventually i has a rash on my face and neck. Oddly enough my Doctors nurses argued with me about these side effects. Finally my doctor saw that I was coming out of my skin and changed me to Ceftin. Not much better. I agree this drug should be taken off of the market. Read More Read Less

If you're not allergic, this is a great treatment for sinus infections. Once a day for 5 days and I started feeling better after one treatment. Take the full 5 days.

Terrible! If Avelox does this to other people it should be taken off the market by the FDA. I only took 3 pills within the course of less than 2 days (as my Doctor prescribed) and I ended up in so much pain that I couldn't even walk after the 3rd dose. I did not exercise unless you call walking to and from different rooms in my house exercise. I am not one to complain about little problems and have taken many different antibiotics and had the regular side effect issues, generally gastrointestinal problems or fatigue/extreme alertness with some. I drove my car for 5 minutes and felt my knee and leg didn't work anymore. My elbow "popped" my knees "popped" my tendons and joints were so strained and I was in so much pain even on pain medication I was in tears. Please if you have any joint problems or are on steroids do not take this drug! I am still having tendon/joint issues and will need to follow up with a specialist to make sure I don't have permanent damage from this drug. I cannot believe any Doctor would prescribe this medicine, irresponsible. Even 24 hours after my last dose I had new pain, in different areas. To sum it up Avelox caused joint and tendon pain/strains in both knees, both elbows and both wrists and hands. I will not just take whatever the doctor prescribes for antibiotics anymore, I will research first, even if that means delaying treatment or switching doctors. These side effects could be permanent and if so are disabling. Please question your doctor if they prescribe you Avelox! There is probably a much better alternative with fewer side effects.Read More Read Less

Within the first day of taking this medication I noticed my left arm becoming increasingly 'stiff' and a feeling of cramp in both my feet. By Day 3 I could no longer lift my arm high enough to wash my hair in the shower. Once I realised it was probably the medication I stopped taking it immediately, the arm improved but I occasionally have trouble with both feet. The side-effects for this drug include 'tendonitis'.

Fluroquinolone antibiotics are always highly effective for upper and lower respiratory infections. BUT, there are significant risks associated with their use: e.g. Tendonopathy, tendon calcification, tendon rupture--e.g achilles, tendon, patellar tendon and small hand and foot joints. Stop this medication immediately if you have any degree of new or sudden onset of joint or tendon pain. The adverse effects are reversable to an extent after 3 to 12 months off the drug. Tendon rupture and calcifications and the resultant joint dysfunction and deformities ARE NOT REVERSABLE. The more often you use this medication, the higher the risk. Try other antibiotics first and use all available nondrug self treatments first.Read More Read Less

I was given a generic for Cefzil and it did nothing to treat the pain and infection in my sinus and throat. After a week I switched to Avelox for 5 days (once per day) and it worked quickly. I had taken it once before for a similar problem some years ago and I remembered how effective it was and asked to try it again since the first drug did not work.

Awful med...will never take it again and believe that it should be taken off the market. Within 3 hours of taking 1 pill, I started feeling very sick. My body started shaking, breathing was rapid and shallow, and I was extremely anxious and irritable. I did not take any more pills. 48 hours after taking 1 pill, I was still experiencing bad side effects plus chest pain and rapid heart beat. I came very close to phoning an ambulance. It has now been almost 72 hours and I am starting to feel better. Very scary reaction....you couldn't pay me enough to take avelox again.Read More Read Less

I did get a bit dizzy so I would take this at bedtime and did at first get a faster heart beat but may have been cause I read all the crazy side effects on-line. This medicine did work for me. Had an awful case of tonsillitis. Be sure to read the package and how other meds (even vitamins) you may be taking can alter the effects and increase chances of side effects.

This is the third antibiotic for this condition. Day 3 and 4 felt real nausea. Got a rash on my back day 2 that itches like crazy. This is day 10 and still have it. I would take this again if it is the only option left on the table.
