I am in my mid-fifties and developed asthma over the last 3 years. For the past 18 months I had been on a repeating cycle of losing lung function until I was at approximately 50% of capacity and then going on prednisone. The time between taking prednisone would vary between 4 and 12 weeks. I would be on prednisone between 2 to 4 weeks. I finally got my first Nucala injection 3 weeks ago. At the...

73 yr. old male. Taking shots for 1 yr. & 4 months. No success thru first 3 shots. Sudden very positive improvement after 4th shot. This substantial improvement lasted maybe 5 months & then it was like someone turned off a light switch. Digressed rapidly, back on prednisone for 6 weeks. Have continued shots, but minor improvement. Less mucus build up, however, lung function is back poor, lack ener...

Adult onset asthma where i was on 10 mg Prednisone daily for 10 years. Doc was trying to get me off of the steroids due to bone loss. Was having no luck. Started seeing new Doc and he suggested Nucala. My insurance agreed and I have once month injection of Nucala and it has worked wonders, no longer on steroids and I can breathe so well! Life changer for me And very grateful!! Only bad thing are muscle aches which is pretty regularly but not sure if being off steroids is the cause or if it is the Nucala. Accepting of that because I can breathe.Read More Read Less

I have elevated IGE and eosinophil levels. Treatment has been great. Been on for 3 months but tends to run out after 3 weeks into the monthly regimen. Other than that, wonderful drug. As the medicine builds up in my system I hope it can last a full month before the next shot.

I was a steroid dependent asthmatic, 25 years of steroid use. I was taking up to 120 mg of prednisone a day. I was on theophylline 400 mg twice a day. If I missed even one dose I would have an exacerbation. I was being hospitalized every month. I was doing nebulizer treatments every 3-4 hours. I have been intubated 2 times. I am now 2 weeks away from being steroid free and no longer take theophylline. I have not used my nebulizer in months. I have not used my inhalers in months. I have been getting the nucala injections for two years now, it truly saved my life. Read More Read Less

Tried multiple inhalers/steroids/etc. 3 hospital stays in last 5 years. Multiple prednisone treatments. 4-6 nebulizer treatments per day. No real success. After 2nd or 3rd shot noted a remarkable difference. Not using the nebulizer anymore. Hoping to get off some of the other meds.

history: Multiple years of prednisone treatments to combat Asthma related mucus buildup in lungs and resulting decreased lung function. I have tried virtually all the inhaled drug therapies appropriate for my condition and none provided relief. Volunteered (and subsequently participated in) a bronchial thermoplasty study 5 years ago through a local well known medical center. None of these actions provided the results of Nucala. Nearly 2 years on Nucala with no side effects and have not needed prednisone one time during this period. Many thanks to my doctor for recommending this treatment and to the Nucala people for making available the co-pay program without which I would not be able to afford this drug.Read More Read Less

I have severe esophilic asthma with many hospitalization and have been incubated. I am a runner and like the decrease in severe attacks. I still have them, but I seem to manage better. I do, however, feel really tired and tend to nap for 40 minutes a day if I can.

I wanted to post a follow up to inform others, as there is still not a lot of info out there on Nucala. After my first injection, my lung function jumped to 100%, I thought I was "cured" of asthma (yay). I'm now a week into my 4th month & shot. Its like my lungs figured out what I was trying to do and adjusted - my lung function has steadily decreased into the 'yellow zone' since the first month. Yesterday I decided to start daily prednisone again to be able to ride my bike and be active. Will check in with my pulmonologist and hear his experience with other patients soon. My eosinophil count is now within normal range, but I'm still on Advair 500 x2/day and its rare I get a day with my lung function above 80%, which means climbing a single flight of stairs is a chore.Read More Read Less

I started Nucala just about a year ago. I was taking prednisone to control my asthma. Very frustrating and not a good drug to take in the long term. Since I have been taking Nucala once a month, I am off prednisone, off one of my inhalers and decreased dosage on the other one. My breathing tests are much improved. So very pleased!!

My history: 3 years of worsening asthma, to the point of being barely more than an invalid, fighting for breath and coughing 24/7. 6 local doctors, $25K of inhalers, medicines and procedures that did nothing. Only prednisone allowed me to breathe. Finally went to Stanford Hospital, who correctly diagnosed me with eosinophilic asthma, and prescribed Nucala. 3 months of fighting my insurance to provide it - and then a protest to the California Dept. of Managed Care to force them to. I finally received my first shot last week. Nucala is so new, there is not much information out there on it. I didn't know what to expect, or if it would even work for me. I'm now at one week after my first shot. I began to breathe more easily the day after, and today I am over 720 on my peak flow - back to normal - for the first time in years. As an aside, one study said the cost of this drug was not worth the benefit. I'd like to have those researchers suffocate or drown for months on end, and then run their numbers again. Thanks to GSK, and thank you to the fantastic staff at Stanford Chest Clinic.Read More Read Less

The time between taking prednisone would vary between 4 and 12 weeks. I would be on prednisone between 2 to 4 weeks. I finally got my first Nucala injection 3 weeks ago. At the time of the injection, I was again losing lung function and was functioning at approximately at 70%. Within one day I noticed improvement as my lung function increased. Three weeks later I fluctuate between 95% - 100% of my lung function. Not sure if my personal situation has had any effect on my reaction to Nucala - I aim extremely fit (which has been a huge challenge to maintain over the past 2 years), eat very healthy, and drink lots of water daily. I have experienced absolutely zero side effects at this time, not even soreness at the injection site. Nucala potentially could be a game changer for me. Read More Read Less

This was a life changing drug for me. It worked within two days of taking the injection. I was taking 6 different asthma medications, including predisone. And I had to use my Nebulizer 5-6 times per day. Now I only take one asthma medication. It's a little annoying that I have to go to the doc every month for the injection, but it's better than going to the ER 10-12 times a year. I hope my insurance company continues to pay for it. I heard the injection cost over $2,000 per injection.
