I was on Butrans Transdermal patch (also buprenorphine) but they were sweating off in the TX summer heat so I was switched to BELBUCA. I like it. It's a small square"film" that sticks to the inside of your cheek and dissolves within 30 minutes. I do that every 12 hours. It is simple and this medication works great. I highly recommend it! It is the one and only pain medicine I take. I have DDD i...

Not gonna give even single star. Just wasted my time when I went to pharmacy for pick up.

I was prescribed this medication by pain management doctor to try to "trick" my receptors. This was just as the "opioid crisis restrictions" from CDC came out so I started those restrictions maxed out on medication. I had a ruptured disk and crushed nerve L5-S1 but Tricare Prime was taking forever to approve the disk replacement. Tricare (Humana Military) ALSO doesn't actually cover this medication except as a non-formulary so it cost a LOT for something that didn't work. Fast forward just over three years: surgery was completed March 16, 2018 & I was told that however I felt on March 17, 2020 is how I would probably feel the rest of my life. I've been in a lot of different pain meds for almost 20 years now. The newest doctor (his PA, actually) has taken away my morphine ER (yes, I had some problems with it, OIC, Insomnia, etc, but I was able to handle it) when I asked to be able to take it twice a day instead of just once a day. She wants to try this again (even though I told her what happened before with Belbuca). She stated that she would like to see if there will be "a difference this time due to different circumstances". Folks, I have Crushed Nerve Syndrome. The pain is still there. Also have bladder and bowel problems due to the nerve damage. I don't think this time will be any different. But, I will update everyone in a month and let you know if there is a change. By the way, this rotted my teeth, on both sides, upper and lower, along the buccals and they have not and cannot be repaired or saved, so, please take that into consideration before agreeing to use this medication. I don't understand how an alleged analygesic med can make my pain worse, but it does. The 3 times that I recently tried this was absolutely horrible. My lower back pain became much worse an very sharp, I couldn't sleep, I felt dizzy, my legs were shaking and had horrible constipation the next few days.

Horrible side effects. I made a mistake by even giving it a try for my chronic pain. It made me feel awful and then I had to suffer in pain for like 2-3 days after that because it blocked my opioid medicine from working. I suffered unnecessary because of this awful ineffective medicine.

This medication is so inconsistent,it dosen't last 12hours, I wake up in the morning feeling like hell because of like a withdrawal,it takes about an hour to take effect again after taking it. I'm on 450 mcg been taking this drug about 9 months, I'm going to have to up it 600 mcg,I dout if that helps.I want to try something else that would make my life comfortable but then I would have to start at the beginning again. Hydrocodone worked good for me but your life evolves around a 4 hour pill.

From the day I started it I could no longer sleep. I have used opioids for years for chronic pain and never had this issue before. I was placed on them by my doctor who refused to switch me back or onto something else. Seven months after taking them I am in more pain than ever and still not sleeping. My health has gone downhill and I can no longer function. Chronic bladder issues, no sleep, difficulty thinking and chest pain for 7 months. I was suffering and my doctor would not take me off - so I changed doctors who put me on another medication. I am finally starting to feel like myself again. What a bad drug.Read More Read Less

My pain doctor switched me from the butrans patch to this little film because I was severely allergic to the patch adhesive. It really works for me. I use one every 12 hours and I can feel my chronic back and arm pain lessen. No side effects for me. I am happy to be relatively pain free and able to live my life again, be active, get work done, enjoy my life family friends and husband. Pills were miserable for me. Too many side effects and weirdness. My insurance covers it and I paid the rest $25 after a coupon. Pain and pain treatment are very personal, you really have to try different things especially if it's chronic. I an happy my doctor put me on buprenorphine and very happy to have this form of it.Read More Read Less

Zero pain relief! Ibuprofen provides more relief than this product. It's relatively easy to use if you don't mind a slimy square disolving against your cheek.

The problem with long acting pain medications is sooner or later, there is going to be a time when you run out the medication IE your DR retires or dies or no longer thinks the medication is right for you or the pharmacy has to order more. There is myriad of reasons it can happen, trust me I have been there more than once. Then the withdrawals come. Severe Belbuca withdrawals can and do last for a month. (Look it up) Then lasting effects can last up to six months. The doctors never tell you this. Long acting pain medications are a very viscous trap. They tell you instant release drugs are bad because they can be abused. Well Belbuca aka Buprenorphine abuses the body with withdrawals that just don't stop. And the pain relief is not that good to begin with. Yes IR drugs do have withdrawals but after 72 hours you are detoxed and can move on. Unless you are planning on being on this for the rest of your life and do have an endless inexhaustible supply of Bulbuca, you are playing with fire. And then there is the price. 600 a month unless you get there coupon. When the coupon is gone, then what?Read More Read Less

It did help control the pain slightly, but all the bad side effects were more than I could handle, loss of concentration, confusion, itching, no sex, just did not want to do anything..Dr is changing me to Extzmpza, so see how that goes.

This medicine is very individual, I feel. I only started getting results when I got to around 600 mcg or 750 mcg. Ultimately, I am now on the top dose of 900 mcg, and am getting decent pain relief. The only issue is that it doesn't last the full 12 hours, so I have another medicine to help in between. But I do like that it works when I am in a partial obstruction due to my Crohn's. Instead of going to the ER, I make sure to be on top of taking this, and it takes care of the pain well verses the other oral med. If you have IBD of any sort, this will work better and work more consistently than oral pain meds.Read More Read Less

I have been taking Belbuca for almost 3 months now. I was taking oxycodone for over 10 years and my body became completely immune to it so my doctor put me on Lucemyra to clear my system (which was hard but I never once got sick). He put me on this as a restart hoping that it would work but it is no better than taking Advil except it gives me constant headaches and makes me very irritable at times. He doubled the strength from the first month to the second month and still no pain relief. This medication could be compared to Naproxen. Itâ??s pretty much useless. It is definitely not for chronic or severe pain!!Read More Read Less

Annoying to open but you get the hang of it after a few tries. Applying it also is challenging, I wasted probably half of my first 10 tries because they did not stick to cheek and got swallowed, making them not work. Do exactly as package says. Make sure fingers are dy. Push yellow side on a very wet spot on cheek for 5 seconds. Let go and close your mouth for 1 min while it disolves. Do not eat or drink for up to an hour while it works its way in your system. All that being said, I get better pain relief from a breath mint. Apparently this one just costs almost a thousand dollars a month.Read More Read Less

The only thing I receive from taking this medication is a headache, slight vision problem and it makes me sleepy. It does not help my pain at all. I have only been taking it for a few weeks so I am trying to give it a chance but it is VERY expensive - even with insurance.
