Today I have been taking Contrave for 30 days. I am 5'7" & was 188 lbs. when I began.  In 30 days I lost 10 lbs. virtually effortlessly.  10 lbs. is not a lot of weight, and I have 33 more lbs. to loose to get to a healthy weight, but considering I sit at a desk all day & study at a desk all evening & never exercise I am thrilled.  The first 2 days I took the medication I felt a little "disconnect...

I took Contrave for 3 weeks following directions. After a few days, I started to feel dryness in my mouth which followed by constant strong bitter taste. I decided to stick to it, but by the end of week three late at night I suddenly started to feel a sharp pain in my lower back which quickly started to spread out up my body. I felt a sharp pain in my chest & back, tightness in my chest and shortn...

I tried this pill for 1 week and couldn't take it anymore. It made me sick to my stomach and made my head feel foggy and dizzy. I felt AWFUL! Wish is worked, but its not for me. I was sick ALL DAY - EVERYDAY!

I've only been on it a month and I am very impressed. I've had no side-effects whatsoever! I was at 240 when I started about six weeks ago with a BMI of 34. I've since lost 26 pounds with diet and exercise of 3-5 times a week of at least 30 minutes. I'm wanting to eat healthier because of the progress and I automatically do. The loss seemed extreme, but the doctor attributes that to my dedication to the program. I do drink a lot more water and I have at least a glass before every meal and it helps. Once I hit my goal, I will ween myself off of it and I expect my healthier lifestyle to keep my weight maintenance on auto-pilot. I'm one satisfied patient. Good luck everyone, stay positive, stay focused and God Bless!!!Read More Read Less

I am on day 10. my doctor started me out at 1pill in am and 1 in pm because I was already on wellbutrin. the side effects are still significant though. very sleepy. nausea, and heartburn. appetite is reduced, cravings better. mood ok. I will continue to try it to see if side effects diminish. Just got my scale from scaledown company today. Any tips from anyone regarding the sleepiness?

I have been ramping up the dose from 1/day to 4/day over the last 4 weeks. I have been nauseous with a headache for at least 5 days following each added pill. I want to stop nearly every day but have hopes that now that I am on the full dose that my body will adjust and I will feel better. As I read these reviews I want to know how many people started with the full dose and who ramped up like me. I have not lost any weight nor have I had any added energy. My only appetite suppression is due to my nausea. I feel positive in seeing other reviews and hope the next week brings some improvements.Read More Read Less

Day 1, as soon as I took the pill I almost threw up. I am not giving up, I plan to drink plenty of water to keep hydrated. Not sure if taking it with water caused that or not. Does anyone have suggestions on what to take it with, before or after eating, etc? I am planning on giving this a shot and not just giving up due to nausea.

I have been on Contrave for just shy of 8 weeks. I have lost 11 pounds. I was hoping to lose more, however that is a little over a pound a week. Without contrave I doubt I would have lost anything. The good my appetite is very small. My sugar cravings are just about non-existent. My mood is very relaxed. Almost to relaxed :) The bad I made it up to 4 pills and had to back down to 3 a day. I amy or may not go back up to 4 pills a day. At 4 pills a day I had palputations/racing heatbeat. I have since learned that if I have to much caffine this will happen, meaning more than 2 cups of coffee a day. Other than that the drug appears to be working the scale is finally going in the right direction. I will keep you posted. One more thing, the very first week I was irritable but that passed within 7 days so it that happens stick it out if you can.Read More Read Less

I have to say I was so excited about this drug for weightloss. This is the first and only dose I will take. The waves of nausea for the last 16 hours have been unbearable. I also have crohns, so am very used to stomach issues...this has been the worst. I read the reviews and thought maybe others were blowing the side effects out of proportion. They are not.

Started week 3 but had to back off to once pill twice a day due to nausea and hot flashes. Then I began to have the odor of stale cigarette smoke all day and all night. I am going to try to wean off this drug and go back to my sertraline.

I am on week 5. I have lost 11 pounds and have done pretty well. I did have the stomach cramps the first week, but they went away. I am having problems with been sleepy and may cut back to the 2-1 pills since I was doing well on that dosage. My husband is on this as well and he has done amazing. He is unable to weigh in because of how much he weighs but he has lost 3 inches in a month. He has to make himself eat most days. Thankful for this medicine. I am hoping it gives us our life back

I have just finished my first week on this medicine and have lost 3 pounds, so that is great, however, I find the side effects are significant. The worst being nausea. I do not have much of an appetite, which is good. The second side effect for me is irritability, and that is most likely due to the nausea. I'm afraid to go to the full 4 pills and am thinking the two pills per day is enough. If the nausea doesn't go away soon, I'm not sure I can stay on this.

This medicine does make you sick to your stomach. My doc gave me some anti nausia medicine but I never had to take it. I am at the 4 pills a day (so week 4) I have lost 6 lbs. I do feel better physically but kind of blah psychologically, I can take things or leave them, don't really care. I have noticed the following symptoms, constipation (sucks), dry mouth, weird dreams, sick to my stomach some, apathy. Other than those things, I can tolerate the medication and I do LOVE the Scaledown program. That is very effective, I don't want them to get on to me with a negative text so I remember that when I want something I shouldn't have.Read More Read Less

I am on month 3 of taking Contrave. My first week on it made me very sleepy. I was on the 1 pill per day dose. I have always had some strange type of anxiety daily. Contrave helped with that immediately and it curbed my desire to eat or smoke. I tried to increase the dose to 1 in the AM and 1 in the PM, but the sleepiness got worse. I have remained on 1 pill each night and have lost 18 lbs to date. I liked the idea of the scales, but each day, it would say I lost 4.6 lbs or gained 3.2 lbs. That was not correct at all. I weigh myself daily on another scale and my weight did not fluctuate that drastically from day to day. I will stay on Contrave as long as I continue to lose weight slowly, but I don't know if I can ever increase to 4 pills per day due to the sleepiness. Read More Read Less

I am on the 4th day of this pill and have not lost a single pound. The first day is when I felt the worst, i had extreme nausea, headache and felt very shaky. I also had a stomach ache all day. I did notice i didn't have cravings for snacks but when it came to my meals i still get hungry and am able to eat the same amount as if i wasn't taking the pill. It does give me the "full" feeling so my portions have not gotten smaller. I am really rooting for this pill so i hope i can lose a couple of pounds by the end of the month. I am scared to start the second week where i will have to increase the dosage to 2 pills a day, i'm afraid that it will cause the symptoms to get worse. I have also noticed i am way more fatigued than normal, i always want to sleep. I am also not able to focus, and sometimes see things that aren't really there. Is any one else experiencing this?Read More Read Less

Yesterday was day 1 of taking Contrave, and this morning I doubt there will be a day 2. Yesterday afternoon I suffered stomach cramps, fairly extreme nausea, and heartburn all evening. I felt so sick that I really couldn't function. This is unfortunate - I started an exercise regime a month ago, which had improved the way I was feeling, but this morning my brain was foggy, I had a terrible headache, and the result is that I have not been able to go to my exercise classes this morning. I have to think that if a medication can make me feel this bad instantly, what will it do to my body in the long term. I took Fen-Phen a few years ago with great success and no real side effects or after effects - the weight just didn't stay off long term, and everything I've read now about Contrave indicates it would have to be continued indefinitely to keep the weight off. I think I will stick to the exercise and try to adjust my diet more!Read More Read Less

I have been at the full dosage for two months. I am weaning off it!! I am hungry all the time since starting this med and have gained four pounds. I have have no other "side effects". But, after reading so many saying they started losing soon after starting med I find no need to spend money any longer. Will go back on previous med once this is out of my system . Good luck to those of you who are having success!!

This is JussHelping with an update. End of week 3. I am still only taking one pill in the morning. I have REALLY noticed the difference and have lost 4 pounds in 3 weeks. In between meals, I don't even think about food. No voices!!!!! Don't give up! Just take it slow. Give your system time to adjust to the dosage before increasing the # of pills you take. I have had no side affects as long as I only take one per day. As my last post said, 2 made me buzz and feel strange.
