Here is an honest review: minastrin is chewable, it doesn't taste that bad, most people here are overreacting. It tastes like one of those dot candies that come on paper, but if said candies had gotten old and kind of gnarly. Not the worst, not the best. I had been on loestrin 24 fe for 7 years. It was very disheartening to find that they would be changing the birth control that I had beco...

I gave this BC a poor rating because I have not started on the pack yet. I am switching over from Lo Loestrin Fe. The only problem I had on Loestrin was break through bleeding and thats it. The dr. told me the dose was to low for me since I wasn't getting my period until the middle of the pack, etc. I read the reviews on my new BC (Minastrin) and I'm worried, but people reading these reviews that ...

I have had absolutely no problems on Minastrin! I was switched to this birth control after Loestrin was discontinued. At first I was hesitant that you had to chew this birth control (what if it got stuck in my teeth??) but I asked my Pharmacist AND Minastrin's website state that you can either chew the pill (followed by a full glass of water) OR swallow it whole (with a full glass of water). I've both chewed and swallowed and have had no problems. I personally chew it because it's the initial way they tell you to take it. Periods have been SO light and barely any cramps. Yes I experience some moodiness, but that's just normal for me. No weight gain, no headaches, etc. I'm very satisfied with this birth control, but I think it's important for people to realize that what works for one person doesn't work for another (and vice versa). Just make sure to communicate with your doctor and get all the facts! Goodluck! Read More Read Less

This birth control was my first ever taking. I started it when I was 18, I am now 21 and it has worked very well. Periods are super light or not at all. When I got the first period with no bleeding, I freaked, but my dr said it was totally normal with this pill. Over the 3 years I have been taking it I am completely satisfied. Besides me forgetting sometimes, I always take it as soon as I can and there aren't any side effects for me except for acne still comes and goes. Sometimes acne is good, sometimes it gets bad, but that would be the only real downfall. Read More Read Less

I switched to these pills after being on the nuva ring for 5 years. This is my first experience with oral birth controls. I have been taking the pills for 4 months and had no problems yet. This month my period didn't come on. It scared me at first but when I saw that it was normal for this birth control I was happy. No weight issues what so ever and I have noticed an increase in sex drive so that's always good too :)

Took minastrin for about a year and a half and saw nothing but bad side effects. My period was regular and short (but this has never been a problem for me anyway) I gained weight, had an increase in frequency and severity of my headaches , sometimes lasting for days at a time with no relief, and my skin has gone crazy! I never had bad skin before taking this bc.

I've been taking this pill for 5 years now with no side affects. My OB doctor specifically told me my period would go away for good, and if I was ok with that, she'd switch me. Who wouldn't be ok with no more periods?!! It may not work well for everyone just like any drug out there, but it's totally worth it to give it a try! I plan to stay on it for as long as possible. And yes, if you google the name, there is a prescription discount card you can print off to get it for $25 a month even if you have insurance. It lasts for 12 months then you have to go print another one with the updated date on it. Too easy. I highly recommend this pill!Read More Read Less

Started taking this a year ago for my period pains and hormonal acne. After a couple months I started to rapidly gain weight and within about half a year or more I reached the peak of weight gain with an extra 50 pounds. It does it's job and I haven't gained since but family is constantly bringing me down because of the extra weight. I'm only 170 so I'm not fat but I come from a very skinny family. Even if I got rid of it I still have all the stretch marks from how quickly it happened.

Overall my experience with Minastrin has been fairly good. My periods are shorter and lighter, my cramps are not as bad, I've had an increase in sex drive, and it has worked as far as a contraceptive. The only thing I will say I'm extremely disappointed with is the fact that my forehead and chin are covered in pimples that I cannot get rid of. I am on my 2 pack and I'm hoping that with time the acne will go away. If not, I will definitely be switching birth controls. The first pack was also pretty rough, I was always tired and nauseas. Other than that this birth control has been pretty good.Read More Read Less

This pill has made me go from a 30 day period to a 4 day once a month which is great. Im upset that will all he reviews ive seen people have seen weight gain with in 2-3 months and I am starting month 2 and see no weight gain.. any help?

Minastrin was my first experience with taking an oral contraceptive and I've been on it for about a year now. I am so far very pleased with my experience! I've not gotten pregnant and I have had no periods for about a year now. That was initially a bit scary and a side-effect that I was not warned about prior to starting this pill, but upon internet research I have learned that I am far from the only one to have this reaction. I have had no weight gain since starting the pill, and yes I still get cramps during the brown pill part of the pack (the absolute worst of which happened in the first month) but besides that I am very happy with my experience so far!Read More Read Less

I felt the need to review this product as a long-term birth control user. I have been on birth control for 12 years (since I first started my period and was diagnosed with endometriosis). I was previously on Lo Estrin 24 FE for over 4 years and absolutely loved it. I had no side effects and my periods were roughly 3-4 days with minimal cramping which was a God-send compared to the cramps I felt when first starting my period at age 13. My OBGYN then switched me to Minastrin 24 after she told me Lo Estrin had been discontinued. She swore up and down that the Minastrin 24 was the same exact formula so I had no need to worry. Upon taking the first 4-5 months, everything stayed the same, no cause for alarm. Then suddenly about 2-3 months ago I noticed the Minastrin 24 pill tasting odd, whereas before, I did not notice a taste at all. From there, I started noticing an increase in facial acne and body acne, increase in oily skin, increase in sweating, increase in mood swings, and the worst one of all- weight gain. I crossfit 4-5 times a week, ride horses for 3 hours once a week, and eat paleo with one cheat day during the weekend. Without changing my diet, sleep, workout routine, or anything else in my life, I have gained 10lbs in the last month...I know this sounds like a small amount, but as a woman who is naturally self-conscious this came as the biggest pain point for me. I have now switched to a different BC pill and will start that tonight. I wanted to write this review as a word of caution to all those considering taking this pill- PLEASE take all reviews to heart and exhaust all other pill brand options first. The feelings I have been dealing with because of this drug and the side effects are not anything I would wish on my worst enemy. Read More Read Less

I have taken this birth control for 6 years now. I have not experienced any side effects except for the fact that my menstrual cycle in almost non-existent now (which is wonderful). I have taken advantage of discount programs the company has offered and it has help absorb the cost of my monthly prescription.

I have been on this pill for about two years. Previously I was on Loestrin 24 fe until the switch. I have been on birth control since I was 15. I am 19 now and it breaks my heart to realize that the EXTREME anxiety, depression, mood swings, headaches, numbing and tingling feet and hands, is ALL this pill to blame. I have had several fainting spells and didn't think it had anything to do with the pill. My heart goes out to all those uninformed teenagers and mothers who think their child is 'just going through changes' or being a teenager. Now that I have done tons of research and informed myself, I have taken myself off this terrible pill and its only been 5 days. My head is already clearer and I'm taking a B6 vitamin supplement. Please do not underestimate how much this pill can change your life, school and work performance. Read More Read Less

$50 co-pays (and I typically have AWESOME insurance), breast tenderness literally the entire time I've been on this (4.5 months now), 1st month was fine, 3rd month no period (scared me to death!), about 2 months of spotting nearly every week for a couple days, blurred vision, moody, no weight gain but I am trying to lose weight and can't seem to lose a single pound (was losing about 1-2 pounds a week prior to beginning this pill). I gave it an honest go. Only cool thing about it was it's chewable and had a minty flavor.Read More Read Less

I've been on this pill for about 16 months (January 2014-present), and it's the only birth control I've tried. I got on it because I was about to get married. Positives: personally, it's easy for me to set an alarm and take it every day. When you order it comes with a 3-month supply, which is helpful for me. My period is now essentially non-existent; sometimes still get cramps, but no bleeding. And, it's been 16 months and I'm not pregnant. Negatives: I get extreme headaches/migraines that can lead to vision/coordination issues. This didn't happen immediately, but has slowly gotten worse the longer I've been on the pill. Having no period can make you more nervous about pregnancy each month. Also, it has lowered my sex drive and I am moodier.Read More Read Less

I never write reviews, but after seeing these I felt like I had to weigh in (and I'm glad I didn't read any before starting this pill). I'm now about to begin my second month, and this pill was a lifesaver. I have TERRIBLE periods usually, and my period this time around was barely even spotting. Just some cramps here and there. No weight gain. Give it a try yourself before listening to the scary comments -- clearly every body is different.

Did not help with my polycystic ovarian syndrome which didn't bother me much because it did make my periods much lighter and I was not experiencing debilitating cramps. But about 4 months into taking Minastrin I began having a lot of breakthrough bleeding, had a period 2x a pack in the middle and on placebo pills about 15-17 days of bleeding every pack, which was pretty annoying. So I changed to Larin fe 1.5/30 to see if I have some better luck.

I started taking lo loestrin in June on 2012 which was soon after replaced with miastrin. (Apparently because of a lawsuits they had to change the name) At the beginning I was having a period that lasted about three days every two weeks but it was very light. That went on for some months and continued to get lighter and less frequent as time went on. After taking the medication for a year I was not bleading at all, ever. It is now June, 2015 and I haven't had any sign of blood what so ever since the end of May 2013. I do notice a bit of mood swings as I get closer to the brown pills which represent a period. Other than that this birth control gives me no issues... Except I am beginning to get concerned that when I decide to get off the medication that my periods may not come back and I will not be able to have children. My doctors don't seem to be concerned about that what so ever, and they are the expert. So, I'm still putting my trust in them and I continue to take this pill. HAVENT HAD A PERIOD IN 2 YEARS!Read More Read Less

So far, so good! I recommend getting a few months of samples for anyone looking to try it out. I have had NO side effects whatsoever, and very light to minimal periods. No longer having spotting/breakthrough bleeding or ovarian cysts. Definitely recommend.

I started taking this pill (as recommended by my dr) the evening of the first day of my period. That was 11 days ago, and i'm still having light to medium bleeding every day. I really hope this stops at some point. I wanted a regular cycle and shorter periods, not longer.

I was prescribed loestrin at first. To help with my periods in controlling the heaviness of flow. Then they discontinued that and replaced it with minastrin, which was pretty much the same thing. Now come to find out that they have discontinued the minastrin, when I recently tried to refill my prescription. That really frustrates me because I was doing fine on the pill. So now I have to try something completely different in the hopes that it works.
