I have not had any side effects and have been taking Actonel for nearly 5 years. My last bone scan showed an improvement.

I was on a weeky dose. Took 3 glasses of water with tablet. Spent the rest of the day trying to clear my throat. After 2 years on it I started to get a phantom toothache and was taken off tablet immediatley. After 4 years since stopping it my throat is worse than ever. Continuously trying to clear my throat plus subject to throat drying out without warning and left choking. Cant leave the house unless I have throat lozenges with me. I loose my voice by the end of the day. This is an EVIL drug and I wish I had never taken it. I am 74 and not on any drugs whatso ever. I am now waiting to see a ENT specialist because of my throat condition...and am pertified they will tell me I have cancer.Read More Read Less

Bloating, nausea, diarrea, severe gas pains and flu like symptoms the entire first month. I can't even think about taking another dose. Up all hours of night with stomach pain and diarrea.

I took one pill according to the directions. That night, I started having terrible back, muscle and joint pains. My left arm and hip also hurt and have had severe stomach pains since taking it. This lasted for almost 5 days. I am not going to take this medicine anymore.

After taking this drug for four year I found I had shrunk 1 1/2 ".Bone density showed 6% improvement. Now I have been Dx with Microscopic Collagenous Colitis. I am concerned that the cololigen forming properties in this drug may be the cause. I will no longer take it and see if my chronic diarrhea, cramps and bloating resolve. I have also switched from Naproxen to Acetominohpen for pain, since NSAIDs are implicated in this condition. However I hsd taken Naproxen for 20 years without this problemRead More Read Less

I HAVE BEEN ON THIS DRUG FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS AND NEVER RELATED MY SYMPTOMS OF REFLUX DISEASE WITH TAKING IT. HOWEVER, HAVING BEEN IN THE EMERG DEPARTMENT LAST NIGHT WITH SYMPTOMS THAT COULD HAVE BEEN A HEART ATTACK BUT WASN'T, I PUT IT DOWN TO INDIGESTION. I HAD NOT TAKEN THE ACTONEL FOR A FEW WEEKS AND THEN DECIDED TO TAKE IT AGAIN ON FRIDAY AND LO AND BEHOLD I HAVE HAD THIS FEELING OF INDIGESTION, MAINLY IN MY THROAT AREA SINCE THAT TIME. I AM GOING FOR AN ENDOSCOPE TO CHECK THINGS OUT AND I WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER ACTONEL.Read More Read Less

Have been taking Actonel for 10 mos. After 4 mos., began experiencing left jaw pain as well as itching in neck/chest area...last week had incredible back/side shooting pain that took me to my knees...no other reason for the pain except Actonel...spent 6 days on my back in bed with heavy doses of ibuprofen...seems to have helped but this is the 3rd drug I've taken in this class of drugs and it is the last.

I got bad jaw pain after I had taken Actonel for a few months. I looked online at side affects taking this medicine and in big letters it said if you have taken this medicine get an attorney. I immediatly quit taking it and after a couple months my jaw quit hurting. My dentist had heard about this medicine too. Scary....

I have been on once a month Actonel for about 18 months now. My last bone density test did show a slight improvement but it was not significant. I don't know if it is the Actonel doing this but for about 8 months now I have had a feeling of a lump in my throat and it feels like I can't swallow sometimes. I have acid-reflux very bad and I really don't know if I should stay on it or not...can anyone tell me if you have had these symptoms.

On weekly dose 18 months - slight indigestion - take OTC acid reducer which helps. Do experience intermittent muscle pain of short duration. My feet both hurt quite a bit making walking difficult.Had fairly good results with my 2nd bone density study plus I take my calcium/vitamin D faithfully. Will stay on it and see what happens with my next bone study due in March 2011. Who knows - the improvement could be just from the extra calcium/D.

Actonel 150mg wow what a head banger, wanted to vomit, headache thought my head would explode and my eyes would pop out for sure, pain in my back, joints, really I do believe I had all the side effects of this drug the worst effect was the chest tightening, thought I was going to die, but that God my mom was there to assist me, too scared to use that drug again in a month.

I first reviewed Actonel 150mg in Oct. 2009 and was having bad side effects. I am still having some side effects 9 months later. Bone density showed some improvement, but joint and muscle pain not worth taking this drug.

Drug has kept my bone density stable. Have had no side effects. Our bodies are complex. While I don't question that some individuals have experienced problematic side effects, I also understand that it is easy to assign any symptom one might be having to a drug they are taking. I do worry about the jaw bone problems some have experienced.

I am 57 and thin framed, until very recently never weighed more than 115 pounds. I had been taking Actonel (once a week)for about a year with only mild nausousness when I began experiencing urinary tract pain. A very uncomfortable fullness and sense of urgency. My doctor advised (after 2 ultra sounds came back normal) going off the med to see what would happen. I feel so much better! More energy, no more stomach upsets and all the little aches and pains are gone!! So now my Dr. is advising Evista...after reading the bad reviews on that drug, I'm not sure what I will do. I guess just keep taking the otc calcium and working out!!Read More Read Less

I have been taking it for 10 years. Need I say more, surely it should have worked by now. On the positive side, I haven't gotten worse either, but who knows, if I hadn't taken it, my scores could have been unchanged too. No negative side affects.
