I like this medication! I'm 27 years old. I was scared to try it because I read all of the bad reviews. I had been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen-Lo for about 4-5 yrs prior to trying Orsythia, and had no problems, but wanted to switch because of the cost. No acne, no mood swings, no period changes. I think we mostly see bad reviews because those are usually the only people who even bother to go online and ...

PLEASE READ: I started taking orsythia in July of last year after my drug store stopped carrying my previous pill Aviane. for the first month everthing seemed fine. In August i started getting involuntary muscle tremors in my left arm and my abdomin, blood pressure spikes that were 255/186 (I'm 24, weigh 105 lbs and am 5'1), dizzy spells, nausea, night sweats. I was hospitalized for 7 days and was...

I started taking this medication after coming off of depoprovera for an extended amount of time because my HCP recommended it in order to get my periods back in order. The first month I started the pills I would get headaches occasionally and had experienced some breast tenderness. I had also noticed some mood changes but nothing unbearable. The second month my moods have been all over the place and I am easily angered by the silliest of things. I have also noticed that I am getting nauseated easily and am avoiding most foods (not pregnant). I also have noticed my sex drive is practically nonexistent at this point. I never had any issues with depoprovera so I was a little confused to why I would be reacting to this medication this way.I am going to finish out this pack and stop taking it afterwards. This is my own personal experience with this birth control and I would advise anyone to do proper research on side effects and understand when they are having symptoms. Any medication has the ability to effect others differently, this is just my personal experience. Read More Read Less

I was on a previous BCP before being switched to Orysthia. I am going to switch to my previous one because after being on Orysthia for a good 5 months or so, my periods havenâ??t been much lighter than before when I wasnâ??t on any birth control (the reason I went on it in the first place) and my cramps have actually been worse than ever before! Yesterday and the night before my cramps were so bad, I almost threw up several times and at one point I almost thought it was my appendix, like someone stated below. The worst cramps Iâ??ve ever had hands down. Whoever stated that below is exactly what I was feeling on this pill. I wouldnâ??t recommend it, it makes you feel worse in my opinion. I have been on the pill for 12 years straight. During that time I have been prescribed Alesse, Aviane and Sronyx as the pharmacist has said "It was discontinued and this is the same exact thing". He was right and they were amazing. No acne, weight gain or mood swings. 4 months ago I went to get my Aviane and as told that Orsythia was the exact same thing and they can no longer get Aviane. The first month I noticed I felt strange and high anxiety with many mood swings and an uncontrollable hunger. The second month I had all the same symptoms with a five pound weight gain but the worst part was waking up in the middle of the night with panic attacks and feeling of impending doom. I felt like I was going to die and my mind was racing, heart beating out my chest and I felt that if I went back to sleep I wouldn't wake up. Last month I got vertigo so bad I could barely stand and walk. It made me feel so dizzy and so irritated that I was snapping at everybody. I called my insurance carrier and beg them to put me on any thing but Orsythia and they are going to put me back on Aviane. It is NOT discountinued. I think the pharmacies get kick backs or something. I do not recommend this pill to ANYONE. If your pharmacist won't change you to something different call around and find one in your network that will. I have been on Aviane for two months now. The first few weeks I still had the night terrors but they were only once a week. Finally it all went away. Don't go luny because of this pill. You need to get off of it if you have the same symptoms I did. I never felt so crazy and out of control in my whole life and I really is hard to believe that one little pill could make that much of a difference. Read More Read Less

The first month wasn't terrible, the worst thing that happened to me was crazy mood swings and some acne. But other than that it has been helping my painful period fairly well. I've gained maybe 2 pounds which isn't a lot. Overall I would say I'm pretty pleased with this birth control so far.

I'd been taking Orsythia for 4 months. My first time taking any sort of contraceptive. My GYN told me it would help me regulate my period, clear up my skin and most importantly keep me from getting pregnant. It did the complete opposite, except for the pregnant part. I had ALL of the negative side affects. I was told to start it as soon as I finished my period. Time went by and I was on my next cycle. Before the pill my cycle would last five days and I would only get it every two or three months. When I started the pill, my period lasted for an entire month. Then during the first two months I was having an extremely heavy flow and unbearable cramps, to the point where I thought my appendix had ruptured and I was rushed to the ER, which they told me it was just cramps. Then I was passing out and having extreme chest pain and heart palpitations, which is a side effect, along with contracting heart disease. Every day since I started this pill I just wanted to die because I was so miserable. I had to stop taking it. I have to wait til June to get put on something different. But at least I didn't get pregnant I guess. I really do not recommend this pill for the sake of your health.Read More Read Less

I absoultly HATE this pill. I've been on it for about 2 months now to stop my painful periods. It has just made my periods more irregular. The cramps came back in the second month and I am now experianceing HAIR LOSS! my hair is super important to me as it is with most woman. I am an utter mess right now. I do not recommend this pill at all!

I've been taking orsythia since i first turned 19. ever since then ive had no issues. My period comes on time every since on exact day that its supposed to, it has made my period healthier, i used to have blood clothes and its been 3 years since all i have is a normal light 4-5 day period. Cramps are still there but nothing too bad. I've been the same weight since before I start on this BC.

I was prescribed Orsythia as birth control and because I had AWFUL cramps during my period and had suspected cysts. I was initially pretty scared due to bad reviews on birth control in general, but so far its been great. The first month I had a lot of water weight gain, acne and mood swings. But since i've been taking it I've lost the bloating, my breasts and butt have gotten bigger and firmer (both in positive ways), I've had better skin and very little cramping and most importantly no pregnancies! The only downsides are I am a tad more emotional but very manageable, since I feel like that symptom comes with any hormonal birth control, I gained about 5-6 pounds but nothing noticeable and I continue to have cramping after sex, which is what prompted the diagnosis of possible cysts but its much less frequent and half as bad as before which is great. I went on this pill because of how severe my periods were. This is the only BC I have ever been on so when my body was first adjusting, I was very moody. I also was experiencing anxiety. However, my cramps now only last a few minutes a day or two before, and my flow is exact as well as light and easy to deal with. It was not until my last OBGYN appointment that realized how much weight I had gained in my hips, thighs, and breasts. I wish my doctor would have told me that this was a possible side effect so I would have monitored my diet better and exercise activity. Read More Read Less

I have been taking Orsythia for about 9 months now, and have had generally good results. I have experienced some weight gain, mostly in my breast though so I'm not complaining. I did go up about a cup size and a half for anyone wondering what the gain was like, and maybe added to my stomach fat a little. I used to get cramps so bad I would almost puke or feel faint, and I'd bleed through a super tampon in under 2 hours. My period was uncontrollable, and this really helped it. I now can use regular tampons, and experience only some light cramping before/the first day of my period. My period is extremely consistent as well and has only been off by 2 days once in the 9 months. Overall, this BC did exactly what it was supposed to and I am very happy with the results. I was on this pill for 1 1/2 years. When I first started taking it, I had the usual side effects, upset stomach but when I took it with food, I was fine. However if you miss a pill, only retake 1, not 2 or you will vomit. In April of 2016, my period came on twice and the second time it did not go off for almost 4 weeks. My breasts were also super sensitive. My doctor switched me the next month. Other than that I had no issues and loved this birth control. I recommend to watch out for unusual signals that may present themselves. Read More Read Less

I had started taking this pill about two years now and it has reduce my cramps. Besides that I actually hate this drug! Sure it helps with regulating periods and prevent pregnancy but not without the annoying side effects. I was 38 DD and went up to a DDD to now an F Cup. I had gained about 20-30 lbs and tried my best to lose the weight. I notice that I may have water weight and bloating as well. My sex drive is negative and my moods go all over the place. I get emotional/depressed/upset for no reason at all even when the day is going well. I am thinking about either switching to a low dosage pill or taking the mini-pill instead. The side effects are just not worth it. Read More Read Less

I've been on this BC for about a year now. For the first three months I got my period twice a month and it was very heavy for a long period of time. However, as soon as I started taking it I noticed clearing of my acne and reduction in my stomach acid (for those of you with acid reflux, this is the way to go). Some things that I did notice change is that I my skin has been patchy of dry and oiliness. Other than that, this is great for the girls who are just starting out on a birth control because it didn't mess with my weight or mood and it definitely makes cramps and migraines less of an issue. I hate this birth control!!! I have never been so miserable/depressed/moody in my life since I started taking this pill. Not to mention I have absolutely zero sex drive whatsoever, and I gained so much weight, especially in my boobs, that I had to go up a cup size and buy all new bras (I'm a 32DD now, but also petite 110lbs, 5'3"). I was always so skeptical about going onto birth control and this is the first one I took, and I told my Dr I need to change after 3 months because I cant keep living on this pill feeling so depressed. This is just my experience with this pill, everyone feels differently, but for me, this is definitely not the type for me.Read More Read Less

I first started this BC when I was 16, at first it was great. I didn't gain weight, I had no acne, and more importantly no pregnancies! I stayed on this BC until I was 19 and switched because I started to get side effects. I wasn't getting my period anymore, and experienced spotting. I started getting awful acne, and sex was starting to become painful the week I was supposed to get my periods. I recommend this BC if it is your first time on the pill and you're a teen. I think this BC ended up not be being for me anymore because my body changed with age. Read More Read Less

My dermatologist prescribed these for me to control adult acne. I have been taking for 3 months and I don't like them. Not only am I still breaking out but I now have a new set of issues! 1st is hot flashes. I have always been very cold natured and a couple of weeks of taking these pills, I started noticing the random sweat spells (miserable). 2nd, acne has NOT cleared up, in fact, I feel it's worse. Last, weight gain!!! I run 3 or more x's a week and eat well but even with that, I have gained about 10 pounds. I have follow up appt next week and will be looking to switch! Read More Read Less

I had no problems (before my baby) years ago using ortho tri cyclen or trinessa (no babies, clear skin & big boobs! Woo!) but my pharmacy only offered me orsythia this time. This is my 6th month and FINALLY no break through period. I kept randomly getting my period and would have to skip pill packs to the next month. Super annoying and never had that problem before. Plus periods last longer. Since taking Orsythia it feels exactly like I'm in my 1st trimester of pregnancy ALL of the time. Headaches every other day and morning sickness every morning. I can't even drink coffee anymore without my stomach turning. (I miss my coffee) I get specific food cravings and sometimes eat twice as much as normal. Luckily haven't gained a whole lot of weight, maybe 3-5 lbs. I Can't even drink alcohol or I'll feel hung over the entire next day. I all of the sudden developed weird itchy spots and developed a rash and sensitivity to my wedding rings out of no where so I had to take them off. I feel a tad lethargic and haven't been to the gym in months which is just not me. The only positives are that it is effective in preventing pregnancy and my cystic acne has clearned up and besides my forehead (which is covered in tiny itchy bumps) looks clearer than ever which makes me happy but not sure if it's worth feeling sick all the time. Luckily it doesn't effect my mood or emotions. I only planned on being on it for 1 year since my husband and I booked a cruise in January and plan on trying for baby #2 after. I might just ditch them after this pack and just be done with b.c. since I'll be 34. I just miss feeling like my happy energetic self. Read More Read Less

Couldn't agree more with some of these reviews. I was prescribed a lower dosage hormone BC to help with mood swings, and took this generic BC, and my mood swings and PMS are worse then ever, even when its not period, along with cramping, and nausea all of the time... not to mention the worst of it all, bleeding all of the time, my period never comes on the day my placebo pill starts, and its always the middle of the pack, and will stop for a few days then start again, I am only 22, and this is the first time I have ever had this issue with a BC pill. I do not think it is even working correctly and seems to be only harming my body, aside from the only fact that it has prevented pregnancy. I do NOT recommend this BC. Read More Read Less
