I like this medication! I'm 27 years old. I was scared to try it because I read all of the bad reviews. I had been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen-Lo for about 4-5 yrs prior to trying Orsythia, and had no problems, but wanted to switch because of the cost. No acne, no mood swings, no period changes. I think we mostly see bad reviews because those are usually the only people who even bother to go online and ...

PLEASE READ: I started taking orsythia in July of last year after my drug store stopped carrying my previous pill Aviane. for the first month everthing seemed fine. In August i started getting involuntary muscle tremors in my left arm and my abdomin, blood pressure spikes that were 255/186 (I'm 24, weigh 105 lbs and am 5'1), dizzy spells, nausea, night sweats. This is by far the worst birth control on the market, my gyno switched me to this brand and I have been taking it for the past 5 months and have experienced the worst nausea, hot flashes, mood swings, and constant headaches for the last 4 and a half months. DO NOT GET THIS IT WILL MAKE YOUR life miserable. I was getting crazy mood swings too.

This is THE worst birth control I have ever been on in my life. I am 24 and have been taking Lutera for the past year, but my insurance stopped covering it and sent me Orsythia which I thought was a generic for Lutera. Not only do I bite my poor husband's head off daily, (and any others who I come into contact with...) I have gained almost 10 lbs in a month, my boobs are always sore, to top it all off, I have not stopped bleeding since I started taking this stuff. I will bleed for 7 days, maybe have 3 days off, and then start another peiod. Constant PMS and constant cramping, it is awful. I just recently got off, (I was scared to get off any sooner as I couldn't get an earlier appointment with my doctor to find another BC method,) and am still bleeding almost a week after I took the last pill. I would NEVER reccommend this birth control to any one.Read More Read Less

In August i started getting involuntary muscle tremors in my left arm and my abdomin, blood pressure spikes that were 255/186 (I'm 24, weigh 105 lbs and am 5'1), dizzy spells, nausea, night sweats. I was hospitalized for 7 days and was a mystery to every doctor I saw. They took me off of my birth control for 7 days but told me it was ok to go back on it. After 7 months of dealing with the tremors, missing 2 months of work (because the tremors would start spontaniously 3-4 times a day and last minimum of 45 minutes) and losing 10 lbs, I decided to take myself off of the orsythia. It has been 4 months since I last took it and my tremors have stopped, I gained all my weight back and I feel great. The doctors were beginning to think I was nuts. (I work in the health field so these were doctors I pretty much saw every day). It was all because of the orsythia. mind you i have been taking BC since I was 16 with no issues what so ever. It was the worst experiece I have ever had and Im still paying for it (medical bills up the wazoo). I know everyones bodies react differently to BC but I hope my experience with this particular brand helps people out. scary stuff!!Read More Read Less

I have been on Orsythia for 1 year. Pros: Prevented pregnancy, no weight gain, no increase in breast size Cons: Mood swings, continued to have cramps (did not help with cramps), irregular period (consistently got period several days prior to placebo pill)

Ive been taking Orsythia for about a year. No weight gain or mood swings. It took away my cramping but I still get acne before my period. My biggest complaint is that my periods are very, very, light and brown in color. Im hoping thats not affecting my fertility later.

I was very nervous about going on the pill due to the side effects I've read about. The first few months were rough... My mood swings were out of control. I've been on this pill for 9 months now, and I don't notice any side effects. No weight gain, no nausea, no moodiness, and most importantly-- no pregnancy. I still have light cramps, but go away with ibuprofen. My only complaint is that I've consistently gotten my period 3 days before I'm supposed to. Slightly annoying.

I've never taken any other BC, but I haven't noticed any problems with this one. I had very bad ovarian cysts every month and now I don't get them or at least I don't feel them anymore. I haven't noticed any weight gain or difference in acne or breast size. I'm not sexually active, so I can't speak to its effectiveness in that regard, but I'm satisfied with it.

This is the worst BC I have ever taken, I took birth control before and after having a child my dr prescribed this one. I have been taking it for 3 months at first I noticed mood swings but the longer I take it I am constantly tired and worst of all nauseous, which has gotten to the point of vomiting daily within hours of takin this pill. I take it at night as it is but it's not enough, I have tried to stick it out but I plan to visit my dr to evaluate other options. I haven't gotten pregnant but most BC is just as effective when taken on a regular schedule, in my expierience.Read More Read Less

Just want to point out: Everyone is different and BC affects everyone differently. My colleges doctor recommended me take Orsythia because it was the same dosage as my other one but cheaper. When I started taking it, nothing seemed different; period came on time, acne seemed to go away, and I wasn't gaining weight (which is my big concern). But after a few months, I gained 20 pounds (originally 110, now 132, I'm only 5 feet tall), my breast are incredibly tender that it makes it difficult to hug my boyfriend or family, my acne increased, and I'm starting to get my period every 2 weeks which has NEVER happened before even on other BC. Also slight mood swings and nightmares. I'm going to go back to my old birth control. It may cost more money but I didn't have problems with it. Read More Read Less

I started using orsynthia 3 months ago. I really want this birth control to work for me because my sex drive hasn't decreased but after I started using it I began loosing hair. Currently, I can tell my hair has gotten thinner and it continues to just fall out. Im also having moderate hormonal acne, as in constantly 10 or more pimples on my face. I have also become more moody. Its one of the first where my sex drive was not killed though. Ill be switching this month mainly because of the stressful hair lossRead More Read Less

Like other users, I was taking Aviane and my drugstore stopped carrying it so I had to start on Orsythia a few months ago. I'm not happy with it because my acne has gotten worse and my cramps seem to get worse every month during my period. The only good thing is it seems to be effective at protection. I've been on many other brands so I will have to try something else.

I was put on birth control because each month my period pains made it hard to walk, I had to take at least 3 Advil in one sitting before the pain subsided and was able to doze off, I had to change pads within a half hour due to the heavy flow and sometimes I would vomit from the pain. Before switching to Orsythia, I was on a birth control that gave me the side effects of morning sickness, nausea, and crazy mood swings. After a much needed change, Orsythia was equivalent to a breath of fresh air. It made the flow much lighter and the pain was practically gone after the end of the first pack. I have not gained any weight while on the pill but I have noticed that my bra size and hip size increased within the year of taking Orsythia. This birth control may not be for everyone but it has really helped me not become a lump of pain while on my period. Two thumbs up! Read More Read Less

So far I have only been taking this pill for 5 months but I have had a great experience with it. My boyfriend and I stopped using condoms about a month in and the pill has definitely worked (we have sex almost every day and I'm not pregnant). I was a bit moody my first month but that subsided, and there has been a constant increase in my breast size. I have probably gone up half a cup size. I have NOT had any weight gain (my diet and exercise have not changed) nor any problems with my period since I started the pill. Before the pill, my period came about every 35 days and last about every 7 days, being very heavy in the beginning and I had cramps the first 2 days. After the pill, my periods shortened to 5 days with no cramping, becoming lighter each time. My periods have been shortening since and my last one was only one day with spotting two days after. I think this will be my last period on the pill. I am VERY satisfied with Orsythia.Read More Read Less

I was also surprised to read all the negative reviews. I had been on all other kinds of BC with horrible mood swings, painful periods, weight gain, etc, and this kind was the one that finally settled everything. I had been taking the same type under a different name because I got it in India but once I got back to the states I went to the Doc and had her prescribe me the exact equivalent because nothing else works for me. This brand is just as good with no effects except no babies which is exactly what I was looking for. Love it!Read More Read Less

I started taking this pill, like at least one other woman, because my pharmacy stopped carrying Aviane. As soon as I switched to Orsythia, I could tell a difference. I had crazy mood swings, and would cry all the time. But what was the worst was that I got extremely sick. I had a stomach ache every single day and would throw up almost every day as well (multiple times). Every day was a struggle, and I even had to call into work on more than one occasion because of it. I would strongly suggest finding a different pill to take, it was not worth it at all for me.Read More Read Less

I was given orsythia when CVS said they couldn't get my normal Lessina. I took it for three months. The first month I had nausea but powered through. Throughout the three months of being on it I have had acne and hives on my jawline and neck. And have begun developing a rash on my legs- time to quit! I went back to CVS and found out they just needs to order my non generic Lessina. Totally worth the little extra it will cost me. I never had the hives, rashes or nausea with headache on the name brand.Read More Read Less

My experience was exactly like the negative side affects other women have experienced. I had become Severely moody. One minute I'd be happy, the next minute Id be screaming and crying, the world felt incredibly overwhelming even when nothing was stressing me out. Not to mention I was getting horribly vivid nightmares, that kept me up at night. on the other hand, this seemed to work as an appetite suppressant for me. (wish I could keep using them for this purpose alone) but i finally figured out it was all due to the BC and have stopped taking it. The first couple of days after not taking it, I was getting bad headaches. Also, something i think may be important to know is from what I have read in the prescription label, this medication has emergency contraceptive in it, as in the morning after pill. I did not like that. Others may like the added safety net but I prefer not to take that form of medication on a regular basis.Read More Read Less

I was Rx this BCP for menstrual migraine treatment which it did help some still got a headache around my period time but not as severe, but I am experiencing mild to moderate bleeding since Sept.13,2013 with a mild low back ache, and left sided ovary area pain, feeling nausea off and on, severe bloating, fluid retention of about 5lb or so. I took birth control in my teens and did not tolerate it then. I am now 42 yrs old am to the point of which I would rather suffer through my monthly cramps, 3days of bleeding and the menstrual migraine. I have tried ibuprofen, Naprosyn for the prostaglandin issues but am allergic to ibuprofen, and Naprosyn and fear taking any other NSAIDS in the same drug class since I am allergic to these two. I hope that this has not been anyone else's experience, because I feel like pure hell right now. I have a call to my GYN to inform of my issues, I have decided that I am just going to stop taking the bcp regardless of whether or not my gyn gets back to me. I am pretty sure she will recommend I stop the bcp anyway.Read More Read Less

The important thing was that I didn't get pregnant during my 12 month use of orsythia. I've been on various different pills in the past and at first, this one was fine. But after about 9 months, I started acting really funny. Bizarre mood swings, depression, crying, weight gain, acne, you name it. I finally went off this pill and everything went back to normal.
