The only thing that could help my pain fr a herniated disk that had displaced the nerve root. It was iv n only lasted abt 2 hrs max but the nurses piggy backed it w norco pill. So my pain was managed pretty well. Dilaudid took my pain away w in 3 min. I will forever be greatful for it. I only needed it 1 time aftr surgery, since the main pain was gone. However, I can c how addicting it is. I really...

IV Dilaudid (2mg)was given to me at E.R.'s about four times. Pain relief for me is very minimal with the relief lasting approximately 45 minutes. I become dopey. After going home, I start shaking, violently. Next, I develop a headache. I, then, end up sleeping for 24 hours. This last time, (a day ago), my blood pressure dropped to 85/39. Despite this very lowered blood pressure, I was allowed to ...

Had an a case of necrotizing fasciitis (flesh eating bacteria) develop from what (at 1st) appeared to be a boil on lower abdomen- My surgeon had opiophobia, in my opinion, but 1st gave me 2.5mgs iv of morphine q4h - no effect, then ordered 5mgs of percocet q4h - no effect, only after 12 hours (3 morphine injections, and 2 percocet) of agony and no relief, my family physician came by to check on me in the hospital- and after some harsh talk on his part- i was given 2mgs of Dilaudid iv push- in 60 seconds, i was not pain-free, but no longer in worst agony of my life! I received 2mgs every 2 hours (had to request) until my surgery, and while is short acting- is only Medicine i trust now when in that much pain in a hospital- long story short UNDERTREATING PAIN IS MALPRACTICE AND UNETHICAL- but you need somone to advocate for you it seemsRead More Read Less

I had to have an emergency small bowel resection. I was given morphine in recovery on a instant pump. This had NO effect on me. They changed me to (Dilaudid) hydromorphone IV; 3cc every three hours. INSTANT and 95% reduction of pain with no dizziness or nausea. It did sort of "amp" me up a little bit. I was on it every three hours for 23 days. Very good pain medication!

Suffering from severe kidney/ureter blockage pain. Admitted into hospital after 16 consecutive hours of extreme/severe pain. Administered Dilaudid (hydromorphone IV) intravenously by nurse in hospital room. I was in complete relief of pain and sleeping within 60 seconds. It saved my life. I received this medication every three hours for a total of 12 hours until corrective surgery became available.

I was given IV dilaudid after minor foot surgery. After one dose I CODED TWICE due to respiratory failure and spent the rest of the week in ICU with pneumonia. Don't use it unless nothing else helps your pain.

I had a severe migraine lasting 2 days and nothing would break it. Went to ER and got this drug in my IV. It took care of my headached quickly, but it did make me dizzy and I could feel it surging through my body.

Had a severe case of diverticulitis and was initially given IV morphine. To my dismay after the 1st dose the morphine stopped working and they gave me Dilaudid instead. Thank God for this stuff! I had never been in so much pain before in my life. With Dilaudid I was able to rest and allow my body to heal, thankfully avoiding surgery. I was very nervous to come off of it because it was so effective at relieving pain but the doctors did a good job weening me off and onto more practical drugs for the remainder of my recovery.Read More Read Less

Dr put me on this using a pain pump following my hysterectomy. It worked VERY well to control pain. It just knocked me out, so I slept through most of it. Also had it in the ER for migraine, very effective.

I have chronic low back pain due to a failed surgery and also several disc problems. I have been taking pain medication for a time now and a few days ago I was hit with a pain in my low back that was so bad I had problems just being able to move my legs. After two days like that I told my doctor about it and he put me on this med. I noticed it was working in about an hour, so I would say it works well.
