I crushed my ankle a year ago and 2 surgeries (hardware in and then infection and hardware out) and infection treated with 6 weeks IV Antibiotics, I have struggled to live a normal life and find pain relief. I work full time as an Engineer and taking regular Dilaudid only gave me short periods of relief. I wouldn't drive within 5 or 6 hours of taking my Dilaudid and I took it two times a day. I wo...

This is the third extended release pain med I have tried, others have been the fentanyl patch and opana. fentanyl and exalgo have given me severe mood changes, anger, anxiety..it has been a horrid roller coaster ride. I need some advice as my doc is intent on getting me on these time released meds

I have had no problem with this medicine and like it so much better than all the other medicine that I have been on. I tolerate pain easy and need good stuff when I am in pain.

Have been taking 4 10/325 hydrocodones and 1-2 4mg hydromorphones for over a year for chronic thoracic back pain from DDD and arthritis. 2 months ago, doc took me off of the dilaudids to try Exalgo 8mg, then 12 - trying to get me to a longer accting med to reduce the number of pills. 8mg didn't work so after a month i went to 12. Within 2 weeks i was back, crying because i was in so much pain. I couldn't drive, work, anything. I'm convinced exalgo did exactly ZERO to help and truly believe it actually made it worse. I was so desperately in pain one day i actually chewed one up (big no no, i know) and felt NOTHING. 12mg of supposed hydromorphone at once and no relief, yet a 4mg dilaudid does wonders. Anyways, i've now switched to the butrans patch and have a HUGE improvement. If exalgo isn't working, look into it.Read More Read Less

I have had chronic pain for 10yrs or more. I have rhumatiod arthritis and fibromyalgia, i also have 4 bulging discs, 2 cervical and 2 lumbar. within the last 5yrs my spine has become deformed, twisting in the thoracic region and c-shaped in the lumbar. Im a cervical cancer survivor. i've had carpal tunnel surgery, and the top of my right scapula removed. I also deal with restless leg syndrome, it does not cause me pain, but would definately make me insane if i did'nt have medication to keep it under control. I'm not telling anyone who reads this all my problems for some kind of sympathy. I did it so you would know that I know about pain. You name it, I've taken it! I've been on Exalgo 16mg er for a month now. I highly recommened this med. I'm not pain free of course, but it has made a huge difference in my life. I'm able to do so much more wth my family and that alone is worth everything to me. The most important thing about this medication is that it does not make me sleepy or dizzy at all. I am able to drive at any time without worry. I have a great PM Dr. and I just happen to have an appt. with him today, I can't wait to thank him!Read More Read Less

At first it worked ok but after a few months the medication slowly lost its effectiveness, the hardest time I have is when the weather changes, like today its going to rain and I feel it comeing 2 days before hand.

I've had very few negitive side effects. Controlls my pain levels well with the problem of not lasting 12 hours-at best I receive 8 hours of pain relive. I've heard thats not that unusual. Doctors or should I say insurance companies should listen to people who need these drugs and make dosing changing that would improve the quality of our lives... _

Unfortunately, Exalgo hasn't worked at all for me. I loved the idea of one pill a day, but the side effects are troublesome. The first week it made me unbelievably itchy. I take it 5pm to try and combat the extreme drowsiness and (for lack of a better word) dopiness the following day. I have had problems with my memory and putting together a coherent sentence since starting Exalgo. It is also very expensive. My pharmacist asked if I was planning on taking it for at least 90 days, because it cost so much for him to order a bottle of it (100 pills). I'm hanging in there with Exalgo to see if it will ever combat the pain. The only thing getting me thru is my hydrocodene for break thru pain. I would seriously think twice before taking this medication.Read More Read Less

I take 32MG of Exalgo every morning supplemented with 15MG of percocet 4 x a day for break through pain. I switched from morphhine sulfate to Exalgo about 4 months ago and I'm very pleased with the change. The morphine sulfate was not giving me much relief but after about 10 days of nausea and severe headaches when I started on exalgo, my pain relief is much better! I don't know how long it will last but I'm very thankful for the amount of relief I get from exalgo. Exalgo is very expensive, about $1,200 for a month's supply until I meet my medical insurance deductible and then about $50 for a month's supply.Read More Read Less

Exalgo ER works just OK. I have chronic pain in my lower back (2 surgeries) and shoulder (pinched nerve). I was previously on Opana (20mg 2x). Opana was the best however I built up a tolerance and dr would not up my dose. He switched me to Exalgo with a diaudud 4 mg (3x) breakthrough. Exalgo is too expensive!

I take Exalgo 16mg and it works well for me. It does not cause the cravings that a quick release medication can cause, such as Oxycontin.
