My doctor puprescibed Nexium for my a couple of years ago, great, no side effects. This year my insurance company decided I needed to change to dexilant to be less expensive. After 4 months, I developed chronic diarrhea...daily since May 30! Six weeks, five doctors, weight loss to 98 pounds, trip to the hospital, and a doctor finally told me to stop the dexilant! Day 6 being off this horrid dr...

I have been taking this for about a month and half and have had a lot of the symptoms people are talking about, but the one I had and did not associate with the drug was not being able to think of a word or mixing up words! I have been off it about 4 days and still have symptoms and hopefully they go away! I have had the pain under my ribs and at night my lower abdomen feels like itâ??s burning! I...

I have suffered since I was nine years old. I constantly got choked on my food. It was destroying my life. I could not go out to eat with friends without getting up to vomit my food in the bathroom because it would not go down. I have been on Dexilant about a year now and I can honestly say it saved my life. Now I can eat anything without having difficulty swallowing and it is an absolute miracle to me.

After 1 dexilant capsule, I developed severe chills, shaking and diarrhea within 24 hours. Sweated it out overnight and am better today. I'm a toxicologist and realized right away it was a reaction to the medication, so good thing I didn't take a second pill!

WORKED for my GERD......BUT I had not done my homework and mistakenly thought (since it's flu season) that the raging flu symptoms I had for 3 weeks in a row were just bad luck - I had caught them ALL! one right after another! NO! Most noteable symptom is screaming burning diarrhea but seriously.....I've been off it a week and up all night again tonigt with diarrhea because I ate today. This is awful. When will my gut be back to normal....? I'm taking probiotic acidophlus and cheap previously reliable anti-diarrhea pills, no relief! One month now without asolid stool, this can't be good, calling the Dr on Monday since stopping the med has not corrected the problem.Read More Read Less

Protonix did not work anymore after 9yrs. I had pain in my digestion of food. Have to be on reflux diet and eat small meals. I will do this and take Dexilant time release 60mg once a day. It works, no pain or acid. My headache that I had at first went away now after two months on it.

Symptoms started in 2006 - severe chest pain feels like a heart attack. Had endoscopy performed by GI - 'inconclusive' & when it continued after prescription of Prevacid - 'all in my head'. Anxiety does make it worse, but does not cause the chest pains. Went of for a few months, reperated through the years. 2015 - new doctor- Endoscopy w/biopsy confirmed Barrett's. Told to take over the counter Prevacid - mostly produced bile, no relief. Then prescribed Dexilant. AT first seemed to help with acid but slowly chest pains became more severe to the point I ended up in the ER. Doctor though achalasia. Menometry 'inconclusive for achalasia. I also have Chron's & IBS so self helped myself with a few weeks of fasting and liquid diet hoping chest pains would stop without strong meds. 15 lost lbs later I am still struggling with chest pain, sore and blocked throat, can't eat even bland solids without feeling 'stuck' in throat and then chest pains continue but not so severe as when on Dexilant. Also, had weird scalp burning/itching. Trying to find help for my known esophageal spasms, the answer for me was Not Dexilant, however, I know several people who take it for standard 'I want to eat whatever I want to eat' acid reflux and feel it is a life saver. I have been taking this medication for over 4 years and have had great relief, however, I changed jobs which means new insurance and now my new insurance will not pay for the medication anymore until I try all the other medications for acid reflux! I am on Pantoprazole now for 3 days and have no relief at all, along with headache, stomached ache and abdominal pains. My doctor wants me to increase the dosage and I do not want to. I would have thought my prescriptions would have carried over as a pre exsisting medication?? I am so frustrated at this point and can not afford to pay for the dexilant out of pocket. What do I do??!!!Read More Read Less

I have had erosion in my esopphagus/a ulcer, causing horrendous PAIN.. my GP put me on Dexilant, 60mg.. within a week, all pain had subsided. my co-pay is 80.00 for 30 days worth. If I go over 24 hrs w/o a dose, the pain comes back very badly. I tried to stretch the med, with Nexium 40 mg, that did NOT help at all.

Only two days on and I feel much better, but I am experiencing the diarrhea side effect. But it is better than regurgitating all my food and being perpetually nauseated.

In 1982, I was treated for a lymphoma and as a result of the radiation,I developed scar tissue in my esophagus. To compound my issue, I developed a worsening condition of ARD. After 4 esphogeal dilitations, my GI Dr, prescribed Previcid 30mg. At first a single dose worked, but after 5 years, I was taking twice a day to keep the acid under control. Like so many others here, my insurance carrier stopped covering these class of medications, PPI, and I had to become a guinea pig and run experiments on myself with all the acid reducers available via prescription. I had zero luck in finding a solution. I realized that spending well over $100/month was the cost of feeling normal, than so be it. I went back on Previcid 30 MG twice a day. This brings me to Dexilent. I made the move over to dexilent from Previcid because Previcid was becoming less affective at controlling my ARD and I needed a new solution dexilent had just come out and my Dr was given some samples so I got to try this extended relief mediation. It worked very well. I have been on the medication for close to 10 years. Side effects? I have had a heart attack, last year a pacemaker was placed in my chest to offset a skipped beat, and now, I am experiencing a heart valve issue, where I am light headed and dizzy with the slightest effort. Can I say these are all linked to Dexilent? No, but I am willing to step away from the medication for a month to see if I experience any recovery as mentioned by other reviewers. My first step before I do this, would be to talk with my GI Dr for his input. Wish me luck.Read More Read Less

Very effective. Used to control constant heartburn and damage to the esophagus. Expensive.Insurance just discontinued covering it and the generic substitute they will pay for does not work nearly as well.

As soon as I started taking this medication, I could start eating normal foods again as my acid reflux was immediately gone. Also, my persistent coughing at night due to acid reflux was also gone. I never realized that acid reflux was the cause of all my coughing until taking this medication!

Directions say for me to take it once daily but I find a dose lasts me close to 48 hours. Works immediately, no after effects, long (very long) lasting. Highly recommend.

This is the only acid reflux medicine that works for me. None of the others are strong enough. The major con is the cost. Other than that it is an amazing medicine.
