I was given dilaudid after a surgery and was great at taking away my pain. When given through an IV you feel immediate relief. I highly recommend this for anyone in extreme pain.

When I had a large abdominal surgery 14 inches! They gave this to me until the hallucinations started! By that time I had been in for over a week. I spent a total of three weeks in Hospital and did get relief from fentanyl and Vicodin.

I was recently admitted to the ER for kidney stones. All of the medication I received that day was administered IV. When morphine didn't entirely resolve my pain, I was given dilaudid. The relief was practically immediate and the feeling was intense. I can now see why people can become so easily addicted to this, so it should only be used in cases of SEVERE pain.

Received 1 mg IV Dilaudid for severe pain. Relief was almost instant but lasted only 10 minutes. Had to wait an hour before given a second dose. On the pain scale of 1-10 it brought me down to about a 6 and again in about 15 minutes I was back up to a 10 and laying in the ER sobbing on the gurney. I was dizzy and felt like vomiting so they gave me IV injection just for that. Took the IV out and sent me home. Glad it works for others, just wish it had for me or that they would have admitted me to the hospital to find someway to control my painRead More Read Less

I had a severe back injury in the military. They always gave me pain pills to try to relieve my pain. When I got out of the military the VA did the same thing. One day my pain was so severe that it went on for three days and I only slept maybe 8 hours during those three days. Went to the emergency room and after three different meds and no relief. They gave me 2 small doses of this med and the pain was completely gone for several hours. Yet I can only get it at the hospital for severe pain. Also the hospital is an hour away.Read More Read Less

This is the best there is but Dr Killpatients all watched drugstore cowboy too, so they all look at you like your a kiddee killer going to a birthday party dresssed as a Clown in the ER.

I have severe Crohns disease and a list of other things that would make your head spin. Many of them cause me pain every minute of every day. I get this drug when I'm in the hospital for my pain, at home I take hydrocodone and I've been on narcotic pain killers for over 15 years. This is a miracle drug! It takes about 80-90% of the pain away for anywhere between 1 to 3 hours *depending on dose*. For me, it works within 3 to 5 minutes of injection. I'm allergic to Morphine. The only side effect I have with this is sleepiness and dizziness. Do NOT turn your head quickly and stand up slowly and with someone there just in case you sway. I would totally recommend this to anyone in severe pain! Read More Read Less

was given this drug when I broke both bones in my arm. I am 62 yrs of age and weigh 122 lbs. active and healthy, however this drug caused a severe re-action...my breathing was compromised, my blood pressure dropped to dangerous levels (enough to set alarms off) it causes severe seemingly endless nausea. I almost died from this drug. I went into the ER for a broken arm and almost died from this drug. If you have never been given this drug before I would highly recommend putting it on your "allergic to" list.Read More Read Less

I was given Dilaudid when morphine, MS Contin and Flexeril didn't work on a muscle spasm in my back. After 2 doses I had relief from the pain. This was the only one that worked consistently. Spent 2 days in the hospital after the ER trip and they did a poor job of pain mgmt there. ER did much better job.

I was given dilaudid through IV during/after surgery. I became highly sensitive to it and stopped breathing twice during recovery. The doctors ended up having to bag me to bring me back and give medicine to reverse the effects of dilaudid. After surgery I was on oxygen and a heart monitor and was nauseous/sick to stomach for 24 hours.

I take 5 each 8 mg tablets per day and this medication does not make me sick to my stomach and does not have any adverse side effects at all. The only problem I have with this medication is that it is hard to obtain. I do not know of a satisfactory substitute. I fear withdrawal and I wish that people who suffer from severe chronic pain would be allowed ti obtain this medication.

Made me pass out. Had to spend 5 hours in the hospital ER and 2 nights in hospital room to start recovery. Feet and hands still have not recovered fully: cold and unsteady on feet.

I have several serious medical conditions that each cause VERY sever pain. I also have Gastroparesis, which makes taking pain pills worthless. I get Sub-Q injections every 3hrs and the pain is considerably eased. Nothing can take my pain away, but this is the best it's ever been. I no longer have any side affects, they all go away within a short period.

After surgery I woke up with terrible pain and a headache. When I was alert enough to ask the nurse what she was inserting in my IV she told me Diluid and that it would relax me and put me to sleep. Joke on that one! I felt like I had a brain tumor and was litterly climbing the walls for hours. Later after calling the nurse again and again for help she came in with the same medication. I refused it and she gave me regular Tylenol (which usually does not work) but I took it anyway and the next morning the headache was so bad and they would do nothing else for it so I left the hospital against medical advice.Read More Read Less

Treatment for severe pain due to large abscess. Was the only Med that worked for pain relief before and after surgery to drain it. Only side effects for me were lower blood pressure (but not dangerously low) and sleepiness/light headedness.
