After reading reviews about how bad this tasted I was very worried leading up to my colonoscopy prep. I must say that I did not have any problems with the medicine. I did not find the taste bad at all. It was slightly salty and had a different taste, but all in all I thought it tasted like water. I cannot speak for the flavor packets as I chose not to use them, but the drink was pleasant to me. It started to work after about 1 1/2 hours and was very effective.

First of all, whoever put on the label that GaviLyte-N has "a pleasant mineral water taste" is severely misinformed about the meaning of the word pleasant and ought to face cosequences for serious false advertising. The taste alone induced vomiting in the beginning. The lemon flavoring packet added absolutely no taste at all. I know the directions say not to add flavoring, but adding a Crystal Light flavoring packet to every 32 Oz was the only way I could choke this garbage down. One would think with all the medical advancements made recently producers of this drug would find a way to make it stomachable. Aside from the awful taste, GaviLyte-N produced the worst abdominal cramps I have ever experienced. I can compare it to how I imagine being disemboweled by Freddy Krueger would feel, which only served to induce more vomiting. The label says it can be administered orally or via nasogastric tube and right now the latter sounds vastly more appealing. I was directed to drink one 8 oz. glass every 15 minutes until 3 liters had been consumed the evening prior to the colonoscopy which was scheduled for a Friday morning and the final liter the morning of the procedure. After the first liter, I started to feel bloated and switched to 20 minute intervals for the second liter. When I had finished that liter, I had more bloating, a tender abdomen and nausea. I could not resume drinking the prep for 2 hours and then only could stand about 2 1/2 cups. The prep took a very long time to work but by 11 pm I was finally having watery bowel movements. The next morning, it took about 2 hours for me to be able to drink the final liter. While still sedated, I had a bout of nausea which required more medication but I was reassured by the MD that I was okay. It took about 3 days for me to start to feel normal again but my appetite is still not back completely and I finally had a fairly normal BM this Monday afternoon but with fairly severe cramping. I have contacted my provider's office and informed him that I would never take this product again. This was my fourth colonoscopy and this prep was the worst ever. I read all of the reviews yesterday before I started the medicine and the reviews were very mix. I was a bit scared. But so everyone from here on out knows I am very sensitive to medications and this one worked great. I had drank 2 1/2 lg. cups and at first I thought it wasn't going to work and it did. I have an awesome suggestion. I used a lg. cup. I bought some emergan-c the super orange flavor and mixed itto the gavilyte and it took away all of the bad flavor and went down much easier. it is mostly clear. I had no stomach cramps, or any other symptoms. do be prepared to move very quickly. I have two knee replacement and can't run.well I had to do my best attempt at running. I am just trying to make it easier for the next person who reads these reviews. The procedure was very simple and no cramps after either, still going to the bathroom but they told me to expect that. Used this for my second colonoscopy. Last one was several years ago and this was much better than the last product I used. I think people get it too cold which chills you when you drink it fast. I didn't mind the taste. Not pleasant, but not horrible. It worked well with little to no cramping and the effects passed quickly.

Used during my Prep Day prior to a colonoscopy. Does not taste good. I was directed to take starting at 3 p.m. an 8oz. glass every 10 min. for a total of 8 glasses (half the gallon) 3 hours later at 6 p.m. I was to take the remaining 8 glasses of the 8 oz. liquid every tem minutes. Overall I had no real side effects, the stuff worked well and did not make me feel bad although I did get chilled during the treatment for some reason. I slept well and had my scope the next morning. The doctor who did my scope did not say my test was less than ideal so I assume I was clean enough. All in all I would use this product again. Read More Read Less

I have done this several times but with this product was the first time, it was horrible! I almost go to the ER. I started at 6:00pm & continue every 10-15 minutes (horrible metal taste)...by 7:00pm I was in the bathroom by by 8:30 (half way thrugh the gallon) I was sobbing with horrible stomach pains, I got chills & I was shaking, end up throwing up for a about half an hour. I stop drinking it but the stomach pains continue for hours...I do no recommend this to anyone!!!

The first few glasses went down okay, but it kept getting progressively more difficult. When I was about halfway through, I began to get very cold, then my fingers started tingling. Soon after, my finger went numb and I became uncoordinated and began shaking uncontrollably. Then my skin became sort of purplish and blotchy looking. Then, I developed severe nausea. I finally managed to get it all down, although it was very difficult. Then, my doctor told me that my prep was poor, after all that! I used this product for my colonoscopy the following day. I didn't find the taste all that bad but my stomach didn't care for the product. After four glasses I began to vomit I'm sure everything I drank came back up! I can't stand to throw up or feel nauseous I then waited until my tummy calmed down about 45 min and I drank some more but drank it slowly, I don't mean sipping it I mean more time between glasses. That worked for me, no more feeling sick or throwing up. I started drinking at 4pm and was done using the bathroom and in bed by 10. I did have a restricted diet of soft foods, mashed taters, applesauce, yogurt two days prior the clear liquid day before so there wasn't much to come out. just taking sips made me dry heave. I find its easier to tolerate with motts apple flavored powder and pouring half a cup and adding a half of real apple juice and adding ice and drinking through straw quickly and waiting a bit before another gulp or two some I didn't start dry heaving again. Tastes like plastic and chemically soap flavor even with the apple flavoring.

The first liter I vomited just after getting it down. I was only able to get down 20 oz of the second liter. After continually trying to drink the rest, I have vomited again. This stuff is horrible. Once I am finished with the test, I will never use this stuff again.

The prep was effective but I found it to have a horrible chemical taste. It made it hard to stomach! I work at a GI clinic and have had a colonoscopy before. My last prep was much better!

Easy to take, does not taste that bad. I am senstive to a lot Of meds and this product went down ok and worked. Tomorrow is the scope?

Does its job well but is barely drinkable. By the fifth cup I was fighting took and nail not to vomit it back up.

This is my second colonoscopy. The first time was with pill, 24 of them. Much better than this stuff! I told my Dr I would never have another on after taking this foul tasting crap. The flavor pack is a joke and chilling it does little or no good. I will do my best to let people to never take this stuff.

I had some issues with GERD prior to taking gavilyte-N for a colonoscopy prep. NOW I HAVE ACTIVE HEARTBURN. Never had heartburn before, just infrequent belching. I wonder if the gavilyte-N did something to my esophagus, or stomach. Someone once told me that YOU WILL KNOW WHEN/IF YOU HAVE HEARTBURN. Thanks to the galvilyte-N, now I know what it feels like to burn for "no" reason. :(

I used this as directed. I had no problem taking it and finished the whole jug. I do not think it cleaned me out.

I was told to take Magnesium citrate the evening before, i was on clear liquids all day until 4pm, the I began the gavilyte-n.....it took a while to kick in and was very hard to drink. It didn't taste too bad but had a strange texture that made it nasty to swallow....but i could do it.....now, i have to finish the rest of the bottle before the exam tomorrow. So far my evacuations are coffee colored. I am waiting for them to clear.

For 3 months following my colonoscopy I had severe diarrhea and rapid heart palpitations. I thought I was having a heart attack every evening for 3 months straight!! After using this product, I will NEVER get another colonoscopy, even if my life depended on it!!

holy moly! this stuff works. you have your first explosion, trying to be delicate, then its just water, no problem. I didnt have cramps or side efects, am also sensitive to most drugs. Just take the day easy, for yourself. Thats nite and day! There is no denying its not something I personally want to do again! ps. my main problem is i am a sipper and fill easy.
