After amitriptyline stopped working to prevent my migraines, my doctor prescribed Topamax. I was so excited because I wanted relief and needed to lose weight (amitriptyline weight gain of about 40 lbs.)I had high hopes and decided not to take the "dopamax" reputation seriously. MY MISTAKE! In just two days of 50 mgs. a day, I became a dopey, confused and unenthusiastic person. I was migr ... Show Full Comment

The medication was effective is lessening the severity of the migraines but the side effects were a nightmare! While I did not have the severe head pain, I would awaken with a racing heart rate, shoulder pain, and disorientation. My blood pressure was not stable. I would not recommend.

I started taking this med because I had 10 -15 migraines a month. Not only did this med not work for me but the side effects were horrible. Eye problems upset stomach just to name a few. I started taking 5000mg a day of B-12 and with in a few weeks my migraines are down to 1-3 a month.

I have taken this medication for several years. I have noticed over time that the effectiveness has worn off. In doing research I was quite surprised to find the side effects of this drug, of which I am experiencing, blurred vision, unclear memory, are not due to my age, but to the drug!!!!! Frightening!! I would say it's not worth the risk!
