Don't let the negative reviews scare you! The majority of people using Implanon are happy so they don't bother to leave reviews online! I didn't get Implanon for years because of the negative reviews and now I wish I had talked to my doctor more and read fewer reviews. I have had my implant for 6 months now. I have no periods and no spotting and it has lifted a weight off my mind that was always t...

I have not had a great experience what so ever with this type of BC. I got put in in March of 2010. the insertion was very easy and not painful. for the first year the only side effects was bleeding none stop and I got a lot of facial hair which can really lower your self-esteem and I felt more hungry. the second year still having a lot of heavy bleeding and as a result I am now anemic. now I am s...

Yes, this is effective. But it is not worth the side effects. I had this for almost exactly two years, I wished every day that I hadn't. Periods: 30 days of no bleeding, 30 days of bleeding, for 15 months. Tampons were painful, regular pads rubbed me raw. Sex: No sex drive. None. Sex was painful. Personality: I was a completely different person. I used to laugh so much, but on Implanon I rarely did. I stopped hugging even my husband very often. I felt like a robot day in and out. The day that I got it removed (3 days ago) I already felt like I was waking up from a fog. I have been smiling, laughing, joking, and enjoying sex. I will never use b/c that I can't control again.Read More Read Less

Ive had the implanon for 1 year and 4 months now, .. first year was AMAZING! no periods just cramps when i should be getting my period. I loved not haveing to remember to take the pill and not worrying about getting pregant. Once i hit 12months with it, i had 2 week long periods every month, than this last month 3 1/2 week long period.. and i notice my sex drive is completely gone.. and ive been very unhappy for months now. Not sure why all this has changed this past few months, and it sucks bc i am a newlywed :(.. meeting with my doctor monday and hoping to get this out of me. Read More Read Less

I'm 21 years old and had the implant put in when I was 19. My periods stopped right away. I had one day of very light spotting about a month after then I haven't had any since. I love not having a period! Its nice to not have to remember to take something everyday at the same time. I've had no problems with it except that I think it may be the cause of my rapid weight gain, but i'm also an unhealthy eater so theres no way to really tell.

Periods were very light the first few months then back to how they were before I had my daughter. I've had it for a year and a half and have had no problems. I often forget it's in and I love not having to remember to take a pill or worry about condoms.

I, like others, chose this form of birth control because I wouldn't have to worry about taking it every month, like the pill. I was wrong, i bled for months, spent more money on tampons and pads than I would've on birth control. Finally after the seventh month I couldnt take it and went to my doctor to have it removed. Well im a very active fit person, but due to all the exercising, my muscle and tissue grew around the implanon. I attempted twice to get it removed (different days). And nothing I was in so much pain and was trying to avoid removing it surgically. I had no other choice though. I had medical bill after medical bill, and finally had it surgically removed, and now I am left with a scar about an inch and a half. I hate it. Read More Read Less

I have had this for two years, my periods are messed up but I can deal with it just fine. I never miss more then two months and never have more than one period a month with some spotting. I have recently got some weight gained believed to be by this, but only a few pounds. I love not having to remember taking a pill, and will be get a new one put in when my time is up.

From the reviews Ive read, everybody has had problems with their menstrual cycle. Thought that it was just me! The two periods every other month and the excessive spotting is expensive. Didn't like the depo shots and wanted something different. Almost finished with the implanon... Guess Ill try the patches next.

I was put on this medication after having some serious problems including ovarian cysts, endimitriosis, and heavy and irregular periods. This medication worked well for me for the first year and a half then i got Pelvic inflammatory disease and i began bleeding alot. sometimes i would bleed all month long. alot of times intercourse would kick me into a full blown period right after i was done having one!!! i stuck out this medication the whole three years and am now getting off of it. i wont get it again. although i did not get pregnant it didn't really help me with what it was intended to help me with. My only complaint is that the person who inserted it was in training and the initial insertion hurt more than it was supposed to. Still wasn't bad, and the rest of my experience has been positive. My arm bruised for a bit, as expected, but I haven't had any side effects. I like not having to remember to take the pill. I usually don't remember it's there, but when I push it on it I can easily feel it. Love it!

My experience so far with Implanon has been less than what I expected. I say that because I was initailly taking the injection deop-vera for two years and had no issues with it at all. While using this new method Implanon I have had severe mood swings, increase in acne, and a lot of spotting. Before using any birth control I would only get my period for 3 days now I get spotting for two weeks and its the worst. I have also gained a ton of weight because I am always hungry now. I have been using the Implananon for a year next month and I am not imnpressed. I am going to go back to my depo-vera injections. Read More Read Less

I am 22 and I been on since I was 21, I havent had a period since i been on which is fine but my sex drive is out the window. havent had sex with my boyfriend in 6 weeks and we live together. Im just not in the mood AT ALL. Also i notice i have been dry and that has never been the case. Also alot of weight gain and no matter how much i exercise it wont come off. I also feel like my feet keep growing. Its perfect for effectiveness but its the price you pay so to each its own. Different bodies react different ways so my story may not be yours.Read More Read Less

Easy insertion. I had 2 and have 3 scars that are little and hardly noticeable. My problem was when I had it removed a couple of months ago the side effects were similar to pregnancy: sore breasts, nausea, tiredness. This lasted 2 months and I finally got a normal cycle now idont know what my body is doing. Turned my cycle inside out. Very annoying and confusing.

This is my third round with Implanon. I have been on it for 9 years. I really like the medicine, its wonderful not having to worry about remembering to take a pill. There are some effects of weight gain but if you are active it should balance out. First time I had it inserted I only had a monthly cycle for the last 3 mths out of the 3 year term. The second time I had it inserted I didn't have any monthly cycles. And now on my third term I have been with out a cycle until this month. To me the benefits outweight the issues. I have yet to experience anything life changing or horrible with the Implanon. I think each person is different, if you want to try it do it--it could be the best thing ever. And if you dont like it just have it removed. I plan on continuing with Implanon until I can have permentally prevent pregnancy. Read More Read Less

Burned like hell going in.. Was great for a short while.. no periods for the remaining 8 months my Depo was slowly getting out of my system.. then BAM my period was heavy, irregular, no warning sign of it happening, and it would last 5-7 days.. every other week for 2 months.. disappear for 2 months.. then come back.. it was awful. the insertion site was itchy a lot.. my breast hurt like a mofo all the time.. libedo is GONE. no fun with that.. and cramps.. mood swings.. i'm bipolar but these mood swings can make the manliest guy scream like an 8 yr old girl and run in fear... DO NOT TAKE... i never got pregnant.. but i didnt sign up for this BS.. i even read the pamphlet. none of this resembled the booklets signs.. Read More Read Less

I had the implanon inserted in September 2012. I have a job where I travel a lot, and would forget to take the pill, and was terrified of weight gain from the shot. The effects were almost immediate. I was diagnosed with severe depression in October 2012. My sex drive completely disappeared, which is insane because I would have sex daily with my fiancée, now husband. I had the device removed in December 2012. It is March 2014, and I'm still on high levels of antidepressants, and my sex drive is still nonexistent. My doctor sees no correlation between the Implanon and my depression/loss of libido, but they can find nothing else medically wrong with me, so that is the best answer I can come up with. I was warned that there are side effects, but I am one of those people that believes that those bad things will never happen to them. Well, it did. Good things about this medication include: ease of use (you don't have to remember to take it, which is awesome), I had NO weight gain, my periods were normal. Please don't let me scare you into not trying this birth control: just remember that side effects are a real thing that can happen to anyone. No one is completely immune to it.Read More Read Less

i got this right after my daughter was born, and i love not having to take birth control pills, i really wish i hadn't now, because i went from having a system that didn't really cycle at all to cycling every 16 days for 9 days, yeah i don't recommend this to anyone. i really like the not getting pregnant part and not having to take birth control pills but other than that it's not that great!
