I have been on Depo for over ten years. I just had a BMD test and I am borderline Osteopenia. Hopefully we can stop osteoporosis before it develops. Please read your leaflets and stay on top of your medical care.

If I knew about all these side effects I would have NEVER taken it to begin with! I gain 75lbs on this! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS!

As soon as I started this birth control shot, I bled the entire time(a year straight) and even months after I stopped using it. I would never recommend to anyone. It affected all aspects of my life negatively.

I was on the Depo shot for 4+ years and loved many things about it, such as no period ever and never once got pregnant. But my sex drive completely died while on this method, and I gained 40+ pounds. The insane appetite was impossible to ignore and I had to get off of it 6 months ago. Now that my period has come back, I’ve lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks and eat so much less. Getting back on BC this week and switching to the Jencycla pill this time around.

Beware if you suffer from any mental illness like depression ect. I got on the shot because I’m terrible with the pills I thought the depo was amazing because I didn’t have to worry about it, but every three months I had no side effects at first besides mild cramping everything was great about two months later I am currently suffering from the worst depression I have ever experienced. All though I will never act on these thoughts I have had the most suicidal thoughts, extreme crying every night it’s been terrible and so hard for me to make it though out the day without getting extremely sad about the smallest thing. Be Careful if you get on this! Read More Read Less

I took the Depo shot for two years and it worked great at not getting pregnant and helping with heavy periods (had none). The negative side was the weight gain and anger. For the first month after getting the shot I could feel the rage flowing through my veins and it just got worse over the 2 years, so I decided to get off it. It took 5 months for my period to come back just an FYI.

I started the depo shot in September of 2021, I was on it for over a year and I noticed how extremely heavy and painful my periods were since I’ve been on it. I didn’t have a period for the first couple months but when I did get it, it was horrible and people also told me that I become moody and my sex drive is so low on this shot. I’m switching the pill now thank god. Everyone is different but this shot was hell for me.

My doctor put me on this cause I have extremely painful cycles. I also don’t need it for the birth control reason because I don’t do it with anyone who has a penis. I had been about a month since I got the shot and while I am happy with the knowledge that I won’t have to have my cycle anymore and that I can do it without having to worry about increased estrogen, some of the effects I have been having kinda suck. I have been spotting nonstop but I think the worse part is cause of the hormonal changes, I ended up with 6 canker sores in my mouth and now I have very painful lie bumps on my tongue that make it hard to eat. I haven’t really had to worry with weight gain cause I also take adhd meds so that already cuts my appetite so it just makes me eat more like a normal person. I honestly don’t know how I feel about it right now. Thankfully if I do have any side effects I don’t like, I am just going to be on this for a year then I am starting testosterone. I know this was the best way though cause it was either this or try to continue with having to cry and throwing up in the bathroom at school because it feels like I am being stabbed. I'm a 40 yr. old that has been taking Depo-Provera for about 11 years. I like it all except, that I have to go to the doctor every 3 months and I do have the shakes and anxiety, heart palpitations, etc. BUT I also had anxiety before so not exactly sure if the shot is causing it. Also I do feel tired alot. What I like is that I never have a period now. Been like that for over 5 years now. However, I am concerned about the bone loss that this is said to cause.

Don’t take this shot I bled for 3.5 months straight on it As soon as I got the shot within 3 days I was bleeding. At first I thought it was my period but it never stopped I went to several doctors, tried different birth controls and even went on estrogen daily pills The estrogen slowed the bleeding but stopped working after 2 weeks. It also made me moody and depressed I basically bled like I was on my period for 3.5 months straight. The last week of the bleeding was so heavy I debated going to the ER. It was a pad every hour for about 3 days Then the bleeding finally slowed down on the 3.5 month mark. It took about a week for the spotting to end In total almost 4 months of bleeding. Very bad experience Don’t take this I discontinued use after one shot due to the side effects Read More Read Less

It works well for me. I have endometriosis and have undergone surgery. One thing for sure is you have to give this shot time to work. It takes time for your body to get used to it. Just like any other medication. The first 3 months weren’t the best. Pain, bleeding, mood swings. I was told to get the 2 shot and I did. It worked fine after that. I know everyone is different but you can’t expect this shot to get ride of all your problems in a month. Give it some time.

I love it because I don't get periods. Before starting "The Shot", I had really painful and heavy cycles every 2 weeks. It got so bad affect my Iron levels. I had Anemia already. I had to get 4 iron infusions 1 time a week for weeks.

Ladies DO NOT TAKE THIS. Seriously the risk isn’t worth it. The shot has given me TERRIBLE anxiety, I haven’t been able to sleep well for days now due to hot flashes, I have palpitations at night. I didn’t bleed or got acne as other testimonials I’ve red but WHAT A NIGHTMARE, I’m so frustrated I just want it to get out of my system

I got the depo shot as my first form of birth control. I thought it would be easier than an IUD or an implant. I wish I had known what kind of roller coaster I was in for. The first couple of weeks were okay. Then the bleeding started. For the next 90+ days, I bled so much that I went through two, sometimes three, thicker pads every damn day. Towards the end of my three months, the bleeding got so bad that I took myself to the emergency room. We thought I had some sort of internal hemorrhaging. Nope. Just the side effect of the depo shot. I will never again put myself through that. Not to mention depo-provera slowly messes up your bones, so you HAVE to take a calcium supplement. I implore you to do your research and find something else. Depo should be outlawed. Read More Read Less

I was happy with it at first, had no bleeding for the first two weeks and then boom. I have not stopped bleeding for 76 days now. I refuse to get a second dose, this stuff is awful. I have no energy, I had to increase my dose of depression medication, and I’m never in the mood. Who would be when you feel gross from non stop bleeding. My partner understands and is not grossed out but I am. I started this to reduce my risk of pregnancy so I can take certain medications for my diabetes. It’s a little more maintenance but I think I’m going back to nuvaring. At least I had some control of my body with that. For those this works for that’s great, I will never swear by this stuff though. Please do your homework before considering. Read More Read Less

I am taking depo to reduce pain and heavy bleeding during periods. First shot was 3 wks ago about 1 wk after period. No side effects so far. No bleeding. Hoping I don't get my period as usual this month. Zero complaints. Less discharge. No bloating. Would deff recommend. 39 yrs old.

Depression was getting the better of me! Easily irritated and constantly tired I also gained 70 lbs I was always 160-170lbs but now it’s at 235 lbs! :( pro is no periods but slowly eats away at your bone density materials over time and no doctor recommends it in my hometown.. now that I’ve been three months off of it my face is suffering the most with the worst case of severe acne because of the hormonal imbalance I can’t eat because the acne is always sore I have antibiotics but it’s suppose to last up to 6-12 months!! Do not recommend!! I also feel more energized without itRead More Read Less

I was told to take the depo shot before getting my arm implant to see if I could handle the side effects. I have been on the pill before and let me just say I thought the pills side effects were bad. But compared to the depo shot, the pill is much more appealing. The depo, at first, was ok. Then, my depression kicked in. I have never been so anxious and suicidal in my life. After having a baby, this shot enhanced my post partum depression and caused me to pop off at every aggravating situation. I do not recommend the depo shot to even my worst enemy. Honestly would rather get pregnant again than use the depo shot ever again. Please, women, do not listen to your gyno and stay away from this emotionally painful form of birth control. The depo shot for me was good while it lasted. I was in need of a new birth control after my IUD failed. Anyways, I only had been on depo for 9 months. I could no longer take the crazy depressed thoughts I was getting and crying for no reason. It made me so nervous and anxious and I would get hot flashes in social settings with a lot of people around. It seriously made me feel crazy. I then decided that I can no longer take the way it’s making me feel so I got off of it. Best decision I’ve ever made. I don’t feel depressed and anxious anymore at all it’s like it went a way after a couple months of being off it. That is how I know it wasn’t me it was the depo shot controlling my emotions. GET OFF OF IT IF YOU FEEL THIS WAY! I promise, if you’ve never felt depressed before and are depressed now on depo, it is from it! Read More Read Less
