If you are:
Not Recommended: RISK OF HEART DEFECTS IN FIRST TRIMESTER; PULM HTN 2ND TRIM;BEHAV SYNDR 3RD TRIM
Precaution: LOW LEVELS EXCRETED, REPORTS OF IRRITABILITY, SLEEPINESS, AND CONSTIPATION
An adult over 60:
management or monitoring precaution: Dosing-Initial dose should be reduced since elderly have minimum plasma concentrations (Cmin) that are 70-80% greater than younger adults. Endocrine-Elderly are at higher risk for hyponatremia due to SIADH from SSRIs. Renal-CrCl of 30-60 mL/min resulted in 2-fold higher plasma concentrations. Hepatic-Hepatic impairment increases plasma concentrations.
Giving Paxil to a child under 12:
Severe Precaution: Possible increased risk of suicide, emotional lability, behavioral changes, hyperkinesia in pediatric and adolescent patients. May decrease appetite; monitor growth rate. No efficacy data for treating depression.
